Sorry. Metallica are well within their rights. They've done some dumb things, but any of you would do this. My name is Ken Wood, do you think I could get away with using kenwood.st or something without being sued? No way.
The site isn't even American in origin, and they had the domain name for a long time now. Lars stole the name Metallica from a zine in the first place. that's why they are retards. Plus, I don't see how a Steel worker's union is taking precious pennies out of Lars' pocket. I'm sure they have the right to sue, but's it's fuckiong lame, and Metallica might mean something in swedish too, there's always that.
Domain names are first come, first serve, as simple as that. It's not the unions fault Lars just did a google search the other day and barely found it.
First off, saying Lars stole it is kind of silly, the dude was his friend. I got my band name from an In Flames song. Did I steal it from In Flames? It doesn't matter if it's not American in origin, Metallica is a global trademark. As for all of you blaming Metallica, Lars in particular, they don't do any of this. Their lawyers do. The lawyers for The Beatles' estate shut down Beatallica's website and the surviving members of The Beatles didn't even know about it. That's how it goes. You'll also remember that Lars was actually the person to get Beatallica's website put back online and kept them from being sued.
I don't support what has been done here, in fact I really could give a shit. Lars is a turd, St. Anger sucked ass, but whatever, they have the right to enforce their trademark. The companies name is Metallic, why did they put an "A" at the end? You don't think it's possible they're trying to drive traffic to their site/business?
