Took a couple of listens but I quite like this. Sounds a solid choice for first single.

Average. But, going by the trend since DOD of Maiden's weakest tracks being their singles, I am hoping the album is pretty good( Classic rock has given the album 9/10). I do hope at least this time, they avoid starting most of their songs the same way. But, since I am a Maiden fan, I will be picking it up anyway. Maiden is one of the few bands that haven't released a weak album, the Blaze years included.

All the major critics are going to be all over this, you can see the hype machine starting already. I'll be happy if it's as solid as The Final Frontier was though - like you say, it's Maiden! (don't agree that the Blaze albums weren't weak though...)

How weak Dickinson's vocals have become is depressing.

That's very disappointing. I wasn't expecting Maiden to reinvent the wheel at this point but that track doesn't make me want to go out and grab this album. Hopefully it was one of the weaker tracks and not an indicator of what Book Of Souls will actually sound like. I strongly disagree that Final Frontier was solid - The Talisman was the only decent song and Bruce killed it with his awful vocal performance - and that Maiden have not put out a weak album. The blaze albums, most of what they've done since Bruce returned, No Prayer For The Dying. Maybe I'm just overly critical though since I don't rate Maiden as highly as some.

Maybe I used the wrong words :P I'll admit, they were weaker than Maiden's previous efforts. But, I wouldn't give any of Maiden's comparatively weaker albums less than 60/100. What I meant to say is Maiden's weaker albums aren't that bad. I don't regret buying any of them.

You didn't like When The Wild Wind Blows? I think that track was excellent. Maiden along with King Diamond are my two favourite story tellers.

Listened to it again and it still didn't do anything for me. I'm hoping it's the only filler track. I don't expect Maiden to spring any surprises. This album will most likely be in the vein of AMOLAD & TFF. It probably will be just as good though. Works for me. My only grouse is the production which I'm sure isn't going to change either. I loved the production on BNW.

P.S. Blaze's song of the same name beats this by miles.

Nah I really couldn't get into most of TFF. Truth be told AMOLAD is the only Maiden album I can listen to from start to finish since FOTD. I'd be happy if they'd expanded on that sound a little more.

The guitar work could have been a little more lively, but this was a pretty decent track. Hopefully the record will at least be on par with AMOLAD. Video is all kinds of awesome though.

Well worn, yes, but not terrible. I'm surprised Bruce still sounds as good as he does after screaming his balls off for 30+ years.

His voice hasn't held up quite as well as it could have if he looked after it properly. For all that was wrong with Redeemer of Souls Halford's vocals were pretty good. He's been doing the same thing for nearly a decade longer then Bruce with less of that showing in his vocals 'cause Rob looked after his voice.

Halford's mid-level vocals are still pretty strong but his upper register is barely a shadow of past glories. Hearing him do stuff like Metal Meltdown and Riding on the Wind live is a pretty painful experience. At the show I was at a few years ago, Rob was bombing so hard on Hell Patrol that he started singing it several octaves lower about mid-way through the song. Total bummer, dude. But there again, thirty plus years of screaming like a motherfucker will take it's toll. Even the voice of the mighty Dio fell victim to road wear and father time.

True, the point was that Bruce has lost it across all registers, the likes of Dio and Halford only really lost the high-end. King Diamond is in a similar boat to Bruce actually and since the counter-tenor was the only interesting part of his bocals it makes his music entirely unlistenable )though there's been a marked drop in quality there anyway musically_

Dio's voice never faltered once. You shut up.

And yeah, if I was seeing Bruce live then I would give him a free pass, but it's called a fucking studio. Use it and fix that shit. He has too sing seven minutes worth of music nine times over the course of two months. Do better.
