Me no like. I'm hoping the rest of the album is better, but I was also hoping for them to have taken the time to write some better riffs than this. Weak production, too.

I am trying desperately to be nice here. It's very dull. I really liked The Age of Nero, but nothing has ever struck me like Nemesis Divina. It was a time and place I guess. IMO there are three black metal albums that changed the world of music. Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk, Nemesis Divina, and De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas. Wolf's Lair Abyss was groundbreaking also though. Compare anything that comes out today to those albums and they fall flat.

Well, let's be fair, Satyricon hasn't played Black Metal in quite some time now. It's mostly been this droning, on-and-on Black n Roll.

Black Metal has been over for years. Even the bands who played it have realized this fact. Nowadays, it's just a bunch of pretenders who tryhard to recapture the low-fi, troo-kvlt sound, or some modern American band that incorporates elements of what someone 20 years ago called Black Metal into their sound.

Might just be me, but Satyr said that this album would be a huge step away from the previous ones in interviews and I'm not hearing it so far, although it does seem slightly more melodic and atmospheric than before. Dull, though, as others have said. Nice that Satyr's as arrogant as ever: "I think it's gonna be a record that's gonna help the black metal movement perhaps find a new way for the future."

On the side point, I don't think black metal is dead any more than death metal is - everyone from Deafheaven to Altar Of Plagues has their own spin and brings something new, with plenty of purist bands making their own excellent take on it for those that prefer it. If the militant, church-burning wing of the music has retired, so much the better.

The Norwegian sound's time is largely over. I loved the classic Norwegian stuff, so while I understand deathscream's frustrations, I don't quite agree with him about black metal generally. Horna is still around for example, still making albums, if you want the quality old Scandinavian sound. Come back to the thread and ask for more and I'm sure we could brainstorm a lot of stuff for you.

And Altar of Plague's latest and last album was more interesting than Horna these days, as solid as they still are.

It's an ok song, I hope there's more interesting stuff on the album though. :dio:

Yeah, very dull song, i didn't even finish listening to it because i got so bored. I was surprised to learn that Sivert Høyem was gonna do some guest vocals on the album and if you are familiar with his work is leans closer to pop than rock, so that's going to be interesting to hear i think.
