I'm extremely ecited that my pick made the list. I seriously think Aquiles is getting the job.

Mangini seems like personality wise that he may have the edge so far.

I depends on what they want. If they want the best drummer in the world they will pick AP.

Didn't sound like Derek Roddy got into it, does it? That's a pretty wacky idea, Derek Roddy in Dream Theater... would be happy with any of the others, really.

And I know some people have whined about how DT and Roadrunner have done this audition thing, dragging it out and that, but I like it... makes it more exciting, power to their elbows. Don't think I've ever heard Myung's voice before this vid.

What I thought to myself, exactly.

And I find this thing a bit humiliating for the guys, but whatever.

Virgil Donati for me though all the rumours seem to be in Mangini's favour but we will see I suppose. It would be cool if they got a drummer that could sing really well for the backup vocals.

Just as the credits started rolling, I thought "wow, that was kinda reality-show-ish"

And then I heard ON THE NEXT EPISODE and laughed out loud.

Aquiles Preister, Virgil Donati, and Mike Mangini seem to be the best matches, imo. Any one of them, and I'll be happy.

I've been reading up and watching youtube videos and I agree that Virgil, Marco and Aquiles are just in another league that Portnoy wasn't himself in, IMO.

The rest are extremely talented guys but if they have something in the toolkit that would totally blow me away, I haven't seen it yet.

Marco has said he wasn't doing it. In Jan. Aquiles made a statement to the effect that he was unaware of Dream Theater (we assume he means their situation and the drummer search, because he toured with them) which is a blatant mistruth considering he was actually there.

I am going under the assumption that no one is out yet and the denials were just bullshit. I don't think any of these guys would have been invited if they did not plan on joining full time with nothing else getting in the way.

Mangini suits DT and ultimately is as good if not better than Portnoy. He is the most likely candidate, though if his style is not the absolute best present that I would love to hear DT play with.

I love these episodes so far. I can't wait for the next one. It's a complete spoof of a reality show. In other words DT are aware that if looks like something cheesy on VH-1. It doesn't hurt that at 20 minutes, they could put this on TV easily and get the 300K people that buy DT albums watching. It's in good fun. Seems like the Petrucci regime is already bringing fun changes to the band.

As the asshole who watches the commentary of the When Day and Dream Reunite bootleg dvd I think I can safely say that I approve of as much footage as they can give us. I love hearing about these guys, read their book etc. I'm a real fanboy so I love these episodes.

I will be sure to listen to the new Dream Theater album if Wildoer gets the job.

+1

I enjoyed this quite a bit. Very laid back and fun, not pretencious like I thought it would be, even with the Dream Theatre Real World vibe. Kind of reminds me of the bass search on Some Kind of Monster, but sane and not being overseen by a shrink.

I would be stoked if Mangini or Roddy made it. I've been to a few Mangini clinics so that would be sick. Derek Roddy just a big fan of his drumming, seems like he would be weird in DT though.

Virgil Donati and Thomas Lang are both amazing and would be the best picks for them, imo.

Thoughts:

Roddy's audition as about as rough as my last few.

Lang was better.

Virgil seems like the only one so far from these videos that is in the same league as Aquiles. Minneman looks good on his own videos, but here he looks like any other drummer. Lang as pretty impressive too.

Aquiles is going to kill during his audition on the next episode. I wonder if DT thinks he is a good fit. If so and he plays the parts verbatim, he's got the job. If they think Mangini's style is superior, he will it.
