I just realised I never actually got around to listening to The Scarecrow. Bad goat! Loved the two Metal Operas.

So this means it's going to be worse than the last one. Why couldn't he have left Avantasia untarnished?

I don't think "The Scarecrow" was bad at all. It was different but if you take it for what it is, it's a great album. Hope this one will reach the majesty of the two first though.

I heard the first track off The Scarecrow today for the first time and it was great! If they're all that good, then I don't see the problem.

The problem many people has with it, is that not all songs are in that vein. There are a couple of Pop/Rock songs, a couple of ballads, a couple of traditional Metal tracks and a couple of Power metallish numbers... the diversity is very impressive but it might also be the album's achilles heel. I personally find it great. :)

I'm a big Edguy fan (barring Tin-eyed Titus Sanktus, which I should give another try actually) so am willing to give Tobi a chance. He is a great songwriter and frontman of my joint favourite Power Metal band (neck and neck with Iced Earth) so any project seems worth a go.

I love Edguy too. I love everything up to Rocket Ride, but he is just making music for money now. Why another Avantasia already???

I guess following the success of The Scarecrow and the Avantasia tour, he feels ready to go. And I think I read somewhere that it will be a continuity of the "lyrical concept" found on the last one just like the two Metal Opera's. And they were released very close to each other and in-between, Edguy released Mandrake even... So he has been able to pull off such a tough schedule before why not again? (even though Tinnitus Sanctus is not a great album IMO).

I'm feel the same way. It seems like Tobias sold out and least it looks like that way on the surface. Everything after Hellfire Club seemed bland and unoriginal.

I hope he doesn't butcher this like he's done lately with Edguy.

The Scarecrow wasn't bad at all so this should be decent. Part 1 is one of the greatest power metal albums ever though!

I gave that one another go just last week or so and I really liked it. I never disliked it, but it had been so long since I listened to it, I guess it didn't leave a great impression.

The Scarecrow is great, though. It's just a different kind of album.

I doubt it's working. I think he's making music like every other musician that matures and mellows with age.

And I fucking love Rocket Ride! That album rules. It's mainly a rock album, though.

You're probably right. I just don't think power metal is a genre you can "mellow out" with.

There are plenty of heavy and fast songs on Rocket Ride, also on The Scarecrow. He is just showing that he is a diverse songwriter and that he has a few more strings to play on. The problem lies within Tinnitus Sanctus IMHO. Not because it's the softest album he's worked with but because of the lack of strenght in the material. They sound a bit samey and they all plod along in the same tempo. If Edguy had released another pure power metal album instead, then I think a lot of people would look back at Rocket Ride and The Scarecrow in the near future saying how they like that period in the bands history, saying how underrated they are. Sorta like Turbo with Judas Priest or something. But now, they are looked upon as undeserving albums by many and get lumped in the same boat as Tinnitus Sanctus because of the downward spiral the two bands are going.

Well, this won't please many of you.

I love it, though. He's a far better rock songwriter, I think.

I like it. As long as he doesn't get too... y'know, Bon Jovi, I can cope.

I've come out of the Jovi closet. I admit it, the dude can write a good fucking song.

And I like it.

Sounds good. Not gonna lie, I do miss the Avantasia of the first two albums, but Tobias is such a damn good songwriter that I can't bring myself to get too upset about the change in direction.
