Dammit, I have to check out Protest the Hero.

Watershed as best overall album?!!!!!! Seriously, WTF!!! And the cover from the Hibria album is wrong, that's the one from the first album Defying the Rules.

I was skeptical too, but if you can stand the vocals, it's an awesome listening experience.

Wait, are there two Protest the Heros? Because the only one I know of I saw with Dragonforce a few years back and were so generically metalcore/emo that they actually got booed the entire time- the only concert I've ever seen this happen at. Hell, even Lauren Harris was just politely ignored.

Well, I'm not surprised they booed PtH, because, considering the crowd was there to see Dragonforce, they probably didn't have any good taste to begin with.

Not contesting that, but still; the band sounded incredibly generic and mediocre with emoness added, and it's not like Dragonforce fans are known to be assholes, like Slayer fans. Maybe they've improved a lot in their last few albums, but what makes this band so good?

I have to admit, I avoided that Hibria because the cover is dreadful (the right cover, now!). I shall check it out indeed!

Yes do. Amazing work by the Brazilians.

I'm pretty pleased with these results, except I don't really understand how the ratings work...

I Can't Believe Crucible Of Man Was More Disappointing Than Nostradamus....I Still Have Yet to Find More Than 2 or 3 Good Songs On Nostradamus...Crucible had quite a few...I Don't Know How Avantasia or GNR didnt win though...GNR was horrific and avantasia was a HUGE letdown after Metal Opera 1 And 2

I see that, despite all the praise, Judas Priest's Nostradamus still gets the 2nd spot for disappointment of the year. I would have placed it first but I fully agree it's a disappointing release from the metal gods.

The dazzling displays of technical proficiency and their ability to create extremely earnest, emotional and/or intense moments, songs, and albums through them.

You have to at least concede that they're better than Dragonforce.

psh, Opeth get #1 by being lowest common denominator and having everyone think its good but nobody think its the best of the year. :P

my favourite thing about Protest the Hero is that they write songs that you can sing along to, while at the same time rarely repeating ideas. each song of theirs has 3-4 parts that i would want to be the chorus because of how kickass it is. also hella emotions and stuff.

i've heard everything from awful to awesome about their live shows, so it wouldn't surprise me if they sucked when Brahm saw them.

All right, you kids have convinced me. I'll check out this Protest the Hero album.

But really guys, Opeth? 1st? As a cure for insomnia, yes, I could maybe see it, but otherwise...
