Wow, a lot of Testament love. I still haven't heard it.

Glad to see Chris saw the same thing I did in the new Edguy.

Zadok probably has my favourite lists, and finally someone who recognizes the awesomeness of ObZen (there's a quite a lot of hate for it on the reader's awards).

Also for including this: #
# Trivium - Shogun It's Trivium! They'll always be shitty!

Priceless.

Great lists, I love how everyone's list is completely different. For me, I have to say Khelek's list is the closest to my own feelings but Alex's and Zad's are close behind. 2008 was a great year and 2009 is looking very good too. Keep up the good work, guys :)

I find myself agreeing mostly with Charles' (Arghoslent! Fuck yes!) and Zadok(Monolith Deathcult!)

2008 was an ok year, I'm hoping 2009 will be better though.

.:c:.

Does Marty seriously only listen to power/prog metal?

I don't see what's wrong that. As much as I like black and death myself, it would get boring is that's all that would be reviewed. I enjoy his hard rock reviews myself.

I know a lot of friends who do the same, only listening to 80s stuff or power/heavy. They won't take even one growled verse... hell, they won't even take gruff vocals. They probably know what they're missing out on but that's their business. I myself can't take grindcore. I tried and tried but it just don't do anything for me. To each his own, I guess.

Have you clicked "show" next to the names?

That might be the solution.

No, don't get me wrong I love power metal, but some form of extreme metal needs to be listened to.

True. I used to be a power metal head myself but then I heard DT's Projector and... I was enlightened! Now I can safely say I have twice as much death than power/prog. :)

Guess it depends how your ears are "wired", haha. Maybe I just need that one grind album to "click" and "get it".

Arch Enemy's Doomsday Machine was that album for me. Though Zadok said it perfectly on the None So Vile review, that DM has a meaty soul that power metal lacks.

Too true. I don't feel much for raw or old-school death, honestly... but I love some of the meaty, fat and greasy sound like Avulsed's Yearning for the Grotesque or early Yattering. \m/

As for AE, Doomsday Machine is probably my least favorite from them (I got into them with a song from Burning Bridges on a Century Media compil back then) but Taking Back my Soul and My Apocalypse rip! :dio:
