Sounds good. I can't wait to hear it.

Finally! I really enjoyed Vermin. Too bad Barker's not drumming, though.

More double bass and blast beats? Cool!

How similar are OMC to Dimmu?

Not that similar. Closer to Wintersun I'd say, got a bit of a Melodeath vibe going.

OMC were really always their own thing, but they have shifted their sound a few times. In the end, it really depends what album you're listening to.

Their early ones were kind of their own sound, keyboard-laden black with slight folk touches here and there. Revelation 666 was more Dimmu-sounding (in the EDT-era) but after that for In Defiance of Existence and Vermin, they shifted for a more melodeath-ish sound (less keyboards, more prominent guitar work), like Zad said.

Personally, my favorite of OMC remains their debut EP, In the Shades of Life. It's sort of Dimmu-sounding, really. There's a split with that EP and Dimmu's Devil Path but IMO, it's not worth it, the songs on it are not great.

They're a bit thrashier and less orchestrated than Dimmu. In Defiance Of Existence is my favorite by them, I still don't know why I like that album so much.

I'd vote for 'The Pagan Prosperity'. The melodies on that album (both keyboards and guitars) were insane. The Millenium King owns everything else Old Man's Child has done IMO.

Agreed, love Return of the Night Creatures, too.

I have to agree with that too. Everything sounds so original on that album. I've tried getting into their other stuff, but after hearing Pagan Prosperity it was difficult. Such an amazing album.

Sweet, probably my favourite metal style. Anyone heard of Equilibrium here?

Yep! Great band. If they keep that way, they might be spearheading this whole viking metal trend very soon. I personally don't care if folk/viking metal is a fad right now; I've been into it for ages, myself.

But yeah, Equilibrium are awesome. Sagas is great but it didn't immediately grab me as much as Turis Fratyr did. That album is just some of the best epic/viking metal around. I'm hopeful for awesome things from this band in the future. What I like from them is that they sound like themselves and not like a cheap copy of another band. They have a few Moonsorrow-ish moments and some Finntroll-like humppa bits but nothing to sound like a carbon copy. There's only so much you can do in this style not to sound like another, anyway. :P

It's definitely in my top 10 of 2008. Although this year... for some reason, my top 5 is all death/black metal except for one prog album. No folk or anything... I'm surprised myself, really.

TBH, I just checked out their vid for Blut Im Auge on youtube on a whim because I was checking out other Nuclear Blast vids, and it was fucking awesome. Yeah it's folk metal, but they have a distinctive sound to them, besides the fact that they made metal video of the year for me (though anyone who has seen metal music vids will say that the bar is set very low.)
