Queensryche really think they are eventually going to re-live the glory days of thier carreer don't they?

Oh, shut up.

I need to get more Queensryche, only have the first O:MC and it's brilliant. The few songs I've heard from Empire, Tribe etc which everyone else (but Ken!) seems to hate are pretty good, as well. A covers album will by nature by something for die-hard fans only, but it'll be interesting to see what they do with Bullet The Blue Sky, I love Sepultura's version.

Empire is amazing, I definitely prefer it over Mindcrime, never heard Tribe though. Anyway, I don't see the point in making a cover album.

Queensryche wasn't the same after Empire they went off the radar ever since and OMII really was bad to the point where I've lost all hope of this band ever getting back that magic that made them one of the best prog metal bands around.

Everything up til Empire rocked. (including Empire) I have the greatest hits album, and the hits stop after the Empire sessions. So, for me the cd only has half the number of tracks listed on the back.

It seems that everybody made my point for me, how about listening to those awful albums before deciding they are as good as mindcrime.

Promised Land owns Empire like a bitch.

Anyhow, I don't like the sound of a cover album. I'd rather them work on another studio album, albeit one without the issues of Mindcrime II.

Agreed.

And, everything after Hear in the Now Frontier (already an average album) sucked (Mindcrime II was just a little better). Take Covers sucks too by the way, too bad, the band had the potential to do much better versions of the very same songs.

Promised land was the last good one every album before is great. MC2 was boring and lacked the energy that made the original so good. Have read some pretty average comments about the cover album.

I heard the Neon Knights cover and it wasn't bad.

With the Pink Floyd cover it's the best one on the cd. The rest ranges from average to utter crap.

I can see his point, so I'll assume he knows how he feels. I'm a huge fan of pop music and love songs like "another rainy night" "jet city woman" & "silent lucidity" myself.

I can't decide yet because i haven't spent a lot of time listening to mindcrime 1, all I know is when I tried to listen to anything after empire, I was disgusted at its awfulness.

There is nothing awful that came after Empire. Promised Land is ridiculously underrated. Killer album. Hear In The Now Frontier is a decent Chris Degarmo solo album (that's exactly what it is), with a few great tunes on it ("You," and especially "Sp00l," "Anytime, Anywhere," and "Hit The Black"). This album was a departure, mainly because Degarmo wrote nearly everything on it. He would have left the band earlier than this had he not been able to write this stuff.

After that one, however, things are different. Tribe and Q2K aren't bad, but they're not great. Each have a few really good songs ("Right Side Of My Mind" is easily one of their best ever), but the albums are way too laid back and subdued. Enjoyable on ocassion. Mindcrime II is far better. It doesn't have the shelf life of the original, but it's still a really solid effort. There's a few turds, though, especially "Speed Of Light," which is easily their worst song ever. That breakdown is so pointless and...just plain bad. And the CD ends on a dull note. I think "Re-Arrange You" is one of the best tunes they've ever done, though.

Anyway, nothing they've done is awful, but they're surely not nearly as good as they once were. And this covers album is decent, but too many songs suffer from what most songs on covers albums suffer from: they lack passion.

I guess some people really want to like some stuff so bad, it doesn't matter what it sounds like? Did you get that Lou reed album too with all that static and noise?

I, myself, have never been able to enjoy Operation: Mindcrime... It's not a bad album, mark my words, but a huge step down in Queensrÿche evolution after the killer Rage For Order.

My Queensrÿche top 3:
- Promised Land 95/100
- Rage For Order 90/100
- Empire 85/100

I'd give the first Mindcrime a 65/100 and Hear in the Now Frontier a 70/100.

What's The Warning like, Ste?

It's a good proto-progressive heavy metal album, you've got to enjoy Iron Maiden and Diamond Head to dig it though. The problem is I like my Queensrÿche when it strays away from metal. Still I'd give it a 70/100.

As for the rest of their studio discography, I'd give Q2K a (generous) 35/100? Tribe a (gentle) 40/100 and Mindcrime II an oh-so-kind 55/100. This covers album deserve a 40/100.

You're certainly allowed to dislike something around here. But it helps when you actually try to discuss the merits of the music or the topic at hand, instead of resorting to attacks on the people who do happen to like it. I think post Empire Queensryche is a boring bundle of shit, but everyone has offered valid reasons for liking those albums.
