You think so? :? Apart from the guitar sound being slightly similar, and the yowly vocals (which are different, if only slightly), I think they're quite different.

Explains their sudden fame, though, if all the Bodomites went looking for something new after AYDY.

Apart from the Neo-classical esque guitar work i can't see any reason to say bodom over any melodeath band. Its clearly an influence but not one of the main influences such as viking metal, and the folk that so often attached with that genre.

But ken, i would like to see you name 50 band like this, i think i could name about 20-30 (and bodom would not be one of them!). As this is a genre i really like i'm always looking for new viking bands so indulge me!!

Why not just put "Viking" into Archives? 631 results...(with folk bands too, but you like them, no?)

Thas a great idea!! I've head of quite a few of these bands but i'm quite picky about the ones i like. I'm not a fan of the really black metal shit, its to heavy for me and not folky enough. Thats why i say i can only name about 20 something that are like wintersun (who are the heavest band i like actually) because it get to a point where i can't listen to it. I see a clear ditinction between the black metal viking stuff and the folky less extreme viking stuff. I don't like bands like Windir but then Turisas i love, two very different bands that are both in the same genre. Thats why i would like to see a list of bands that are like wintersun, because i'm lazy and can't be arse listening to 631 bands to find only a few i would like :P . but i'll give it a try.

(and yeah, folk metal is awesome)

I've always thought of Wintersun as CoB with blast beats and viking influences, early CoB that is.

I always thought of Bodom as Stratovarius with harsh vocals and Wintersun more Rhapsodyish with harsh vocals.

I for one absolutely love this band along with ensiferum. Im so sick of people talking about originality and this bands sounds exactly like 100 other bands. The way I always look at it is that for the most part every band is original because unless its literally the same song then its original. Thats the idea of genres and subgenres. You try to place bands in certain areas and thats about it. Just take the music for what it is and enjoy. Also for those saying you could name 50 bands that sound just like wintersun, please do because I would love to see that. Again maybe you could do that but that is placing the bands in a genre or subgenre and that is not a bad thing just because you can name lots of other bands that have a similar sound. Wintersun and Children of Bodom comparison I think is way off too. COB does not have folk or viking elements
