So take it a different direction - how come Cannibal Corpse shows seem to be less violent than Slayer ones? You can't tell me Hammer Smashed Face etc are less malevolent than Slayer tracks...

Couldn't say.
Maybe Slayer uses subliminal messages in their music, maybe something in Slayers music hits just the right chord to ignite violence, I don't really have an answer to that.
Never seen CC, either, so I have no basis for comparison.

It could be that while CC's music, well at least their lyrics, is no less malevolent, it is not as coherent as Slayers, therfore it is just a wall of grunting sludgey noise.

A question for scholars and the ages.

Well, it's probably in part because you get people like this going to Slayer shows all the time.

As for anyone thick enough to sport a Fiddy Se-yunt shirt at a Slayer show, well a black cop walking into Spahn Ranch circa 1969, in full uniform wearing a "Fuck Charlie" sign on his chest (right next to the bright shiny badge with the letters LAPD on it) asking "Where da white women at?" while brandishing a water pistol in his hand would probably fare about as well.

That scream at the end was hilarious.

It was fucking awesome. Belladonna started off weak but stepped it up. Indians was the best song of the night. 'Deth was sick as always. Broderick is fucking awesome. He can compete with Dave which probably means he'll be booted eventually. Slayer sucked. Horrible set list and weak ass presentation. King sucked as always. Whoever had to decide between Slayer and Ihsahn choose Ihsahn. Metallica was good. Basically the set I saw when they came to Cincinnati. Hetfield can't sing about child abuse and war anymore if he's going to do it with such cheer. Am I Evil was awesome. Odd how they only put out snare drums for everybody else and Slayer didn't even participate except for Araya walking out in the end. Hopefully, they're Metallica-jealous and drop it so they can be replaced by something awesome like a reuniting Dark Angel, Testament or hell even Municipal Waste.

I'm pretty sure I saw Lombardo banging on the drums during Am I Evil?

I also saw Hannenman at the end, never saw Araya though...

anyway, yeah fuckin sick show. The transition from Indians to Heaven and Hell was pure awesome.

also Kirk playing Rock Bottom by UFO was amazing. sure it was just the main riff repeated a few times, but it was still awesome.

I like how when Megadeth came out, they gave no BS. Dave just walked to the mic and said here we go. then Holy Wars started, which sounded awesome. these 2 fucking kids behind be booed Mustaine and were making fun of him all night until I couldn't take it anymore. I turned to the little shit and told him off pretty good. He didn't speak a word for the rest of the night.

awesome awesome night, heres hoping they do this kind of thing for more big concerts and festivals.

and trapt, did you pay full price? I was going to, but then noticed that nobody was paying attention, so I got in for a mere $8 instead of $18.

I paid full price.

Was there a pit at your showing? During Peace Sells, Angel of Death and Search and Destroy, there was a full-fledged circle pit.

I didn't even notice the UFO riff but then again I've never listened to UFO.

Yeah there was 3 pits.

During World Painted Blood, Raining Blood and Master of Puppets.

I was one of the older people at the show. I felt old for the first time in my life.

You're missin out homey, UFO is chock full of tastey licks and awesome rockin songs. Phenomenon is a good starting place, it's got a lot of the "hits."

QFT.
Though I'd suggest Strangers In The Night as the gateway album.
