Myself, I just find it funny how some people are disrespectful. Whether it's a legend like Dio or a member of a band you're not a fan of, talking shit about the band or the deceased person is immature and shows a serious lack of class.

I'm not a fan of Slipknot in the least but it's still a human being that passed away and no matter who it is, that deserves respect. I wonder how many will weep the deaths of those who were poking fun at the band...

Anyway, end of rant.

RIP, Mr. Gray.

I for one wouldn't care because I'd be dead. And just because a person dies, you don't automatically treat them like they were saints. With your way of thinking when someone like Bush or hell, Mugabe is pushing up daises they should be respected because they were human beings, whatever they did in life forgotten. Yeah right. Dio is so missed because besides being such a legend, he was a great human being. He was a person who everyone would have liked to know on a personal level. If he was a huge cunt in life, the loss wouldn't have been felt quite so keenly.

Wow, you're kind of taking me way out of context. Paul Gray wasn't someone who killed thousands or was trying to start WW3, was he? He was just the bassist of a music band. So you see Slipknot as a band that's out to destroy metal?

So because you don't like the band or the person's music, you have no respect for someone's death? I guess I just keep overestimating human beings, then... and here I was getting my hopes up that people here still had class, unlike on a certain news site...

I agree. Unless the deceased is a real lowlife, scumsucking piece of trash that goes out of their way to cause grief, which I see absolutely no indication of that being the case here, making light of of a young mans death (with a now fatherless child on the way) is crass and displays a lack of character. Careful; it could be someone you care about tommorrow.
I'm all for "taking the piss" as those across the pond say, but there is a time and place for everything.
Slipknot are off on their own trip, doing their thing; if you don't dig it, don't listen to it... whats so fucking complicated about that?

That's what you said, a human being. Of course Paul Gray doesn't fall in that category at all (as in like Mugabe etc) but that's what you insinuated in your post.

The difference is, if he was a legend and not a great human being, he would be mourned by more people here than if he was a great human being but not a Metal legend. He was a rare combination of the two, and so the loss is felt more keenly.

Let's face it, this is a website with a strong underground/traditional Metal ideology - we're lucky that we're not Metal Hammer or whatever where half of the board would be wishing death to the rest of Slipknot and the other half would be in mourning. Ultimately, COTB is right, yet I don't think we should prevent people from having opinions on the musicians concerned - or prevent others calling them asses because of said opinions.

ha, Metal Hammer? If this was Metal Hammer, you'd get around 80% mourners.
