It is usually a good idea to not comment on things one is ignorant about. For example, I rarely post in the true/heavy/power discussions.

Anyhow, I'll ask again, you thought Satyricon's Dark Medieval Times was "meh"?

Yeah the same with me, I made my first post about Horna, haha. I was only recently discovering the real black metal but I didn't even know where Horna was from.

I actually didn't mind the song, nor did I mind the single from the last album. Probably because there's more groove to it. So, as all you black metal loothers exit stage left, I enter stage right. Get on, get out of my thread with ya!

I admit to some ignorance concerning alot of BM, but I did go through a proper black stage about a year ago where all i listened to was Abigor to Zyklon (i know zyklon aren't totally black but i know no other BM band beginning with Z). People asked me what I was listening to and if the title didn't send them running then a 'sample' did.

But then one fateful day came when I had the master of all headaches/hangovers and BM just wasn't helping at all. So I put down my In The Nightside Eclipse and my De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas and picked up a friends album called.....With Teeth!
:D just kidding!
Actually it was Reckoning Night by Sonata Arctica - my now favourite band, and it suited my mood just fine. when it was over i raided other cds i was being lent and picked up Stratovarius, Blind Guardian, Dragonforce and Dream Theater. Then my friends, I saw the light. And I am now an enjoyer of many facets of metal. Black, Death, Melodic, Speed, True (though i don't believe true exists, there is no real definition), Symphonic, Thrash, Prog, *cough* some Power, Goth, Industrial, and various weird shit without a genre (eg - Haggard).
But while I do still love my Black Metal, I'm not as an authority on it as i used to be (although that was probably shit compared to some of you). Also the BM scene started to piss me off a bit. some people were way to racist, facist and homophobic for my liking.

And as for Dark Medieval Times, I've never heard it. I was always told Satyricon's best was Nemesis Divina, which I had and found to be average. the better side of average, but still not up there with At The Heart of Winter. If anyone can educate me better, I'd be happy to listen

The song wasn't bad, it just wans't anywhere near good. A pretty resounding goddam "MEH".

And for the record, Dimmu Borgir kicks ass.

I didn't mean to be rude earlier, so don't take it that way. But, the people that told you Nemesis Divina was Satyricon's best were wrong. We had a best Satyricon album topic here not too long ago and Dark Medieval Times was the consensus favorite. The Shadowthrone is also very good. And if you never have heard Ulver's Bergtatt, give it a listen too. :)

I agree. People don't learn about more underground stuff unless they find out about it somewhere, and the folks here are a good source. People relatively new to a genre just need to be careful about making claims to certainty.

It's ok man, it takes alot more than that to offend me. The only thing you said that might of been offensive was hinting i was only a fan of power and true metal. But I knew what you meant so it was fine.

I'll definately try and hook up with some Dark Medieval Times then Bergtatt, if i can find it anywhere. Where I live, there is no way in hell this stuff can be bought off the street easily and most internet sites will rape your wallet sideways.

But that's just it Kathaarian, EVERYONE is going to buy this, not us.

Maybe someone who lives in Norway can explain it to me, an American citizen. What is the problem with playing Norsk Black Metal? I mean...Is it too hard? Are bands like Satyricon afraid of media backlash? Religious groups? Record labels threatening to lower distribution rates to countries if material is deemed too "edgy" or "controversial"? What the hell happened to our heroes? I mean, this shit makes Dimmu Borgir look neKroGrimKvlt.

Enslaved has gotten hugely popular in Norway and won all kinds of awards by following the correct blueprint. Rather than simply sell-out like Satyricon they have merely become less extreme over time, yet they still write good material.

So true. I'm eagerly awaiting the by now not so distant release of Ruun, I hope it will save this year from being a complete disaster for Black Metal (Satyricon, Venom, Dissection, Celtic Frost... my oh my, how the Gods have fallen).

So this is what Satyr calls being "elite" these days? Then fuck yes, I'll be a poser all the way to heaven and back, thank you very much.

Just go to the following;
http:www.theendrecords.com (very cheap $11 to $12) + free shipping regardless of amount ordered!

if not, then
http://www.centurymedia.com (The US mail-order site). Very cheap as well (about $11 a cd!) Also they have free shipping for all orders over $100.
They have began updated the new release page more frequent as of late and have speed up delivery times. They are even stocking limited Euro releases on the US site at the current time :)
I just got Iron Fire- Revenge and Summoning- Oath boound on the release dates :)

These two are far Cheaper than anyone else.

For cheap Underground or BM (rare) difficult to find releases!
http://www.redtream.org
or
http://www.darksymphonies.com

Free shipping and cds range from $10 to $12

All of these price new releases the same way!
They even get Euro releases and the day they are released in many cases.

You should never pay more on the Internet than any local store Period! It is insane to even purchase from anywhere except via the Internet if you ask me. I would do it even if there was a local Metal store here in my hometown in TN. It is just way to cheaper and you avoid Taxes :)

Let me know what you are looking for and I will find you the site that has it for under $13 Guaranteed!

Thanks for your help and the offer, but although the cd's here are cheap they are also American companies. Me, being in Scotland, will get raped by airmail postage, which while not so bad is still annoying when it's the price of the cd to send a cd to me. Also, I'm a poor student so I just don't have the money to buy cd's that way But someday I may take you up on your offer.....
