I am not looking forward to anything new from the big cry baby. It will probably sound as shitty as the last one, and the one before that, and the one before that and the one before that. Countdown was Dave's "...And Justice For All" and like Metallica, destroyed his respect by selling out with Youth and Cryptic, comparable to Metallica's Black Album and Load.

I still love Megadeth though, the early days. Countdown and prior albums still kick my ass and I love listening to them, but anything after Countdown is shit imho.

Who knows, he might have grown a new set of balls for this next release, but I seriously doubt it.

I must apologize for my previous post. I love Dave, but I can't get that footage of him "crying" like a bitch on Some Kind Of Monster about how he feels like "number 2". That is the last thing I expected from a shredder like Dave.

Eh. That was kind of weird, but I won't hold it against the guy. In all fairness though, Metallica were notorious for taking media shots at him every chance they got for years. They would bring him up in interviews for no reason a lot.

Not only that, the guy has been compared to Metallica his entire career, he's been taunted by Metallica fans for over 20 years, all the while the dude has been releasing some very good music that really should never be compared to Metallica. I think those are justified and I respect that. I do not respect the fact that Metallica edited all that to make him look like a baby and that they were the bigger men. Just look at how James and Lars treat each other, and even Newsted, it's not a stretch to believe Mustaine in this issue.

I always valued Dave more than anyone in Metallica. He was a personal role model and I always felt he did get fucked by Metallica. I know the story about the Dave edits on the SKOM movie and I could see Napolean..er Lars doing that just to piss of Dave. But those tears only showed me that he doesn't think his music is as good as Metallica's. It seems to me that he only made Megadeth just to piss of Metallica. He also seemed upset that he sold only 15 million CDs... lol! Slayer hasn't even sold a quater of that in their entire career. Many bands haven't and he should appreciate that fact instead of whining about it. Metallica sold 150 million because you couldn't go a fucking second in 1989-1992 without hearing "One" on the radio. I remember seeing preppies, jocks and ropers jamming to "One", "Enter Sandman", and "Unforgiven"... it made me question listening to Metallica. Load did it for me though. Load was the bullit in the fucking head for Metallica. I at least gave megadeth until Risk.

I might say some mean things about Dave, but I have nothing but love and respect for him. I tend to bitch a lot when it comes to change.

Hmmm, while I doubt the hyperbole Mr. Drover was spouting off, I do look forward to it. But, I distinctly remember Dave Mustaine saying that The System Has Failed would be the last album under the Megadeth banner.

Oh yeah, The Dave Mustaine Band isn't as marketable as Megadeth. Friggin money whore.

That's how it goes. Distant Thunder isn't as marketable as Helstar, so the band tours under the name Helstar even though they're essentially not Helstar. The industry is an evil beast.

EDIT: This is fucking old! Hahaha. I thought it was a new news bit.

I think they're about even. Risk wasn't that good, though not horrible, and the first two Megadeth albums aren't that great. Metallica have Load and Reload, which I like, but many hate. And they have St. Anger, which is easily one of the worst metal albums of all time. Right now I'd say that for the first time Megadeth is on top, if we're to compare. The World Needs A Hero was a very nice progression from Risk, and The System Has Failed was pretty fuckin excellent, blew St. Anger away.

Still, both bands have some killer albums and a few not so killer.

The hell indeed..

In anycase, Dave did pretty much make Megadeth to piss of Metallica. Thats one of the things that makes the early albums so excellent; they're filled with pissed off energy that allows kickassery.

Some great songs on them, but some stinkers. I'd also add that So Far, So Good...So What! isn't that great either. All three could have been amazing EPs, but I think there are some shitty songs on each.

You're crazy man. Those first 3 Megadeth albums are some of my favorite Thrash albums of all time. Dave and Chris Poland(Young on SFSGSW) were an amazing guitar duo.

I don't know, there are a lot of songs I don't like on those first three albums. I think the band hit their stride on Rust In Peace.

WTF didn't they break up is this a reunion or something? Watched Testament live in London DVD recently reminded me why I prefered them to Metallica and Megadeth such a talented yet underrated band.

I'd say they hit began to hit their stride with "Peace Sells... But Who's Buying", took a slight step back with 'SFSGSW' (for one thing, Buehler and Young just don't cut it), and then took a huge leap forward with "Rust in Peace". I think they peaked there. A lot of people seem to disagree a little or a lot on albums after that, but none of them really matches 'RiP'.

I never did check out "The System Has Failed". I've meant to, but somehow I just can't get excited about it. I heard a couple of the songs, and they just didn't do it for me, and it didn't really motivate me to look futher into it. I used to like Megadeth a lot, and I still do despite not listening to them as often as I used to. But Dave seems to have pretty much lost his mind. I don't know if it's the years of drug abuse, bad advice, personal demons or what, but... :?

I don't have high expectations for the new album, but until I listen to 'TSHF' I probably shouldn't say much anyway.

*EDIT* - And even though I said 'SFSGSW' was a slight step back, I do think it had several strengths of its own. It was perhaps the angriest, most "out of control sounding" of their albums, and the lackluster production on it worked pretty well because of that. It's got some real gems like "Mary Jane" too that tend to get forgotten (seems like a lot of people only remember / mention "In My Darkest Hour", and I don't care for that track very much at all :? )
