I dare say that Addy's reviews would certainly be an interesting reading experience....

I can write a record review. I had dozens over at RYM that I came up with that were concise, technically aware and on topic and I drew good analogies. I have the uncanny ability to completely change the perspective of where I'm putting things into context too, so it's not like a "not my cup of tea so it sucks" attitude. I wrote 9 college papers for English classes and critical thinking and got 8 A's and 1 B from teachers that did not give those grades unless they were exceptionally written. If the site could deal with one record a week I could probably manage that and would be eager for the opportunity if I could do archives more than new stuff, but I would like to listen to stuff outside my own listening habits since that would be far more objective. I do have the habit of not favoring old stuff for it's influence though and don't really care how much everyone loved a record if I find it to be technically and artistically mediocre. That's my sales pitch in a nutshell.

I wanna do it, but I don't have much time to listen to records when I spend 8 hours a day listening to music anyway. I would have really jumped at the chance a few years ago when I had a friend who gets every labels promos on a monthly basis. Then I could have written about stuff a month or two early. Maybe in the future when my good mood stays around for a while because I don't get depressed or pissy when I am doing a good job and the last year or so that has seldomly been the case. Looks like things are turning around but you never know what will happen.

I think writing reviews would be right up your alley man. You put so much detail and information into your posts (not a knock, just pointing it out) that I bet you could write some truly in depth and well thought out reviews. Something to certainly consider.

Chris, you should definitely go for it. Like everyone else said, you pay extreme attention to detail and as a result could do an excellent job of what a review should be... An excellent "in depth analysis of a record."

You're very kind to say so Nima, but I'm probably the worst possible candidate for a reviewer position. Poor grasp of the language, sinusoidal level of commitment in general and passion for metal in particular, and last but not least: I also find it extremely difficult to put words on thoughts and feelings when it comes to music, as Milan said. Even in my first language.

If you want a French dude, I agree on this Stefan proposition of yours though. I read some of his reviews in French and their translation in English (IIRC), they were good. :dio:

The difference being: yours is perfect, mine isn't.

And to go further on why I would epically suck, I would give only two scores: 50 and 85. I have trouble finding anything really bad, or excellent.

Well, that might be a problem :P

In any case, I think almost everyone on these forums has great potential in becoming a music critic.

Thanks everybody. I'm in the process of re-rating all the songs I know that I have on my computer so I can see how the albums scored, so that will refresh my memory on all the songs. I can't think of a bad album to do, so I got ahold of the post-empire queensryche. Something has to suck royally for everyone to hate their work so much. There's always Megadeth's Risk too. Maybe it will take a day, maybe a week, but no more than that.

I'm amazed that all of you guys think your grasp of English is anything less than excellent.

If you think your English is bad, you should hear my French, Dutch, etc!!

It is fun!

Really I don't consider myself Argentinan or Jewish, although I guess I am technically those things. If someone asked me how I self-identify I would just say Australian.

You guys kick ass to read and speak so many languages. I only know English, though I can speak Italian properly since there's only about three dozen sounds in that language and I have the voice pedology to do so. Other than that I'm lost. I'll bet you can get a lot of different perspectives like that. I'm limited to my little box of English or poorly transcribed into English. I know enough about language to know that some things to not translate whatsoever.

Indeed, there are some expressions that are impossible to translate from one language to another.
