I'll submit my work tomorrow, they are reviews for Decapitated and Defeated Sanity. Uh, do you guys authorize reviewers to post their work on MA. Or do they become property of this site only after being written?

Do the reviewers on this site get promos for new bands they review or do they need to buy every single album they cover??? I'm pretty sure no one on this website can afford to buy everything they review, given the fact that here in America new albums average $15 to $20.

Yeah. No need to worry about that, Skiggath.

BTW, $15-20? You even check amazon.com's independent sellers?

Most likely you won't get many promos at first. Once in a while one of the reviewers that have a few label contacts (Zadok, Alex, etc.) will send out an email letting the reviewers know that a few promos are up for grabs, but that doesn't happen very often. Same goes with unknown bands that are asking for someone to review their album for them.

If you're worried about not having enough material to review, and don't want to look online for an illegal download, then I suggest signing up for a music service such as Rhapsody or Zune's music service; basically all the music you could ever want for $15 a month. I have Rhapsody and I never run out of things to review because of it.

Also, if you become a reviewer, try submitting applications to labels for access to iPools; you won't always get in, but if you do, it will give you many more reviewing options. Try messaging lesser-known bands on Myspace asking if they want an album reviewed, they'd likely be more than happy to send you mp3's or even a physical album.

I've never, ever run out of things to review, though, and I was worried at the beginning like you. So don't worry, one way or another you'll have something to write every week.

1 Question: Do the reviewers have to go out and buy every new release that they review??? CD's run $15-$20 here in America and they don't have a lot of underground metal at any music store around me. So I was wondering if the labels ever send promos for review. I don't think any of us can afford buying everything they review.

Look at where I posted just above you... should answer any questions. I guess you thought your question failed to be posted the first time or something, heh.

My bad. I thought I didn't post it at first because I didn't see that this thread had a second page. Thanks for all of the thorough and concise answers.

Per Kyle's rightful comment, in addition to other things I have to get more disciplined having the guys informed who asked me for reviews, etc. I have a glut bigger than I could ever handle. My honest promise to the new recruits that I will try. But labels and bands come seeking you eventually, after you faithfully slog away at writing.

Well, I can afford a cd on Ebay a week or so, and I have a nice collection of stuff that I could review off the bat for archives. It's not the end of the world if promos don't land in my mailbox every week.
