I hope this'll be good. I've been looking to get Damage Done but if this turns out to be better I might get it, if I don't have Damage Done by then...

From this article it looks to be pretty awesome, though.

I love this band. Their whole attitude and everything is just awesome. They are great live. Michael Stanne is fucking awesome. Dark Tranquillity is one of the best bands out there. :dio: :dio: :dio:

Dark Tranquillity are my favorite melodeath band! I really, really hope they incorporate some more of that Projector experimentation again!

Projector kicks ass, but that could be said about any of their albums.

I'm totally new to them. What's their best album would you say?

I've always liked DT. Even if they say they're going to play something different, it's always good. No complaints. Just waiting.

I'm totally new to them. What's their best album would you say?

I would avoid Skydancer and the Of Chaos And Eternal Night EP as starters. Not because they're bad, but simply because they're just an older style of what they're doing now.

The Gallery and The Mind's I are both killer albums with more of a speed metal/thrash feel. If you pick any of those make sure they're the recent reissues with bonus tracks.

Projector is their experimental album. It's still a melodic death metal album, but with a lot of keyboard, a lot of male and female clean singing, and a lot of melody. A killer album, but if you want a completely heavy album, this isn't the one.

Then there's Haven, Damage Done and Character, easily their heaviest albums. Haven had a little residual Projector flavor on it, but it's a much heavier album. Damage Done and Character are just brutally heavy albums! They fucking rule! But the same can be said about all their albums.

You could also get the Exposures: In Retrospect And Denial double CD. One CD has early demos, b-sides and import bonus tracks, while disc two has a live concert with songs spanning the band's career. And it's a great live album (taken from their DVD).

Basically you can't go wrong, but the earlier stuff is more death metal, then they get a bit more thrashy, then they experiment for an album, then they drop the hammer and just crush shit! So, it's up to you. You can't go wrong, though.

Well, that's really a tough one. It would probably just be best to start at Character and then get their back catalogue from there. But you really can't go wrong. Every album is a little different but all are really good.

Well depends, If your're into heavy extreme stuff start off with the Gallery or Character. These albums have a rougher edge.

If you like a little less extreme, Haven and Damage Done should do the trick, they are heavy well crafted and catchiest riffs you'll ever hear...well maybe :)

I used to really love DT, haven't listened to them much over the last 6 months though... I think I just overdosed myself on melodeath and can't stand the genre anymore.

I'd go for Damage Done since its their most accesible, or The Gallery since its their best if you want to get into the band though.

Find yourself, man. I'm beginning to think you're dabbling in the wrong style of music.

I dunno, its like if I like something I'll listen to it a lot... then after a few months I'll start listening to it a bit less, then after six months I'll just stop listening to it all together. It's like once I "know" an album fairly well I can't stand it anymore, except with a few really, really amazingly good ones. :(

Yeah, I try and mix things up so I don't "overdose" on one album.

It's going to be a hard task to create something better than "Character" (their best album, by far, IMO). I guess they can't do anything bad.

Hmm... this thread made me listen to Character again and it was better than I remember it being.... possibly their best. It has the consistent song quality of Damage Done. On that album the songs were all kind of samey, but on Caracter there's a nice variety. And the keyboards actually didn't sound goofy or out of place, which is rare in metal for me.

Agree, I even own their DVD and I never buy band DVD's. Awesome, first rate band and def one of the top reasons I got back into Metal. Projector just blew my mind how someone could make the metal Album I always wanted to here and Skydancer is so perfect. big fan of the Gallery and Haven as well. Even my friends that don't listen to metal like Haven. Shit, all their stuff is top notch, I wish In Flames could have kept it going as well as these guys (IMO so Ken doesn't start a flame war).
