Shocking ! RIP

That sucks. RIP scumdog.

Sad news. It took a lot of guts to put together the kind of band he did and showed a high quality person with a lot of integrity to make the music he wanted and just do what he wanted to do. Those people rarely succeed and rather than being image over style, the mainstream both downplayed their existence e while admitting they had something that a lot of people would enjoy and could make a lot of money with at the same time.

I hate saying that a band needed another band to come before it to exist, because artists will always find a path, but they proved acts like Mushroomhead and Slipknot could be marketed to a large audience.

The whole mythology of the band makes it great on another level. I would love for every band I listen to to have an elaborate superhero quality to them and a backstory with the songs that tell the tale. In a way they pioneered a concept that power metal would take in a more philosophical direction. Bands singing about the legend that is the band or the legend of heavy metal itself really started with them.

I'll owe him a debt of gratitude when I write my album about the legend of Adveser, the singer who's subconscious denies him his goals so that ultimately they happen, or whatever is going on.

There will be a viking funeral pyre for Oderus Urungus at this year's GWAR-B-Q. A truly fitting sendoff.
