I am not an expert but I think that Travis Smith kinda invented the generic modern metal album artwork style, and while a lot of his stuff is very cool it is also often sort of autopilot metal cover.

That is a good summary Noodles.

I know how respected he is and how he got there, but this cover was pure 'autopilot'.

I do agree with you both on that, though. It does sometime seems like it's a bit "easy" and pastiche-like. Reminds of his work on the Winds albums, heh... all 3 albums look near-identical in design. One could say it's a concept with the band (Winds) and stuff (which is probably true, at least in part)...

I do also agree that this cover is a bit bland and typical, though. I hope the layout is better. Oh well... thankfully Nevermore still kicks ass. :dio:

Really good news. I thought they were on the verge of splitting.

*Fights urge to start ripping on the 'genius' of Travis Smith's art. Fighting really hard....*

Considering nearly every "metal" graphic artist out there is ripping off the template Travis created, give the guy some slack. Especially when he's working under the direction of the band.

I don't care for the kids in the cover, myself, but it's still high quality work.

Can't wait for the album. :dio:

Yep me neither, TGE was a great album so this should be just as good.

As for the art, TBH it doesn't bug me at all, there are far worse album covers out there. Like the new Tarot.

So I noticed the tracklist was posted on metalarchives for this--10 tracks, 45 minutes. I'm still superexcited for it, but I am a bit disappointed that almost 5 years after their last album they only wrote 45 minutes of new material, and no epic length tracks either. I hope this isn't Enemies of Reality Pt.2.

Any new Nevermore is better than no Nevermore.

Also, Enemies Of Reality is awesome.

Ah, I forgot how delusional you were!

Ok, the title track was superior, I'll grant that.

Duuuude, like, the title track, I, Voyager, and Seed Awakening are all top tier Nevermore. The rest is awesome as well.

And I still like the muddy production.

Ok, where would you rate Enemies versus some of their other albums?

Uhhhh... Let's see...

Dead Heart In A Dead World > This Godless Endeavour > Dreaming Neon Black = Enemies Of Reality > The Politics Of Ecstasy > Nevermore

Although their s/t is still really good.

Interesting. I think I'd go...

This Godless Endeavour > Dreaming Neon Black > Dead Heart > Politics > Nevermore > Enemies

For me the thing about Nevermore albums is all featured some great tracks (This Godless Endeavor, Poison Godmachine, Inside Four Walls, Seven Tongues of God, What Tomorrow Knows, Enemies of Reality etc.) but they also contained filler. Godless Endeavor was very light on filler, and I hope that trend continues!

Warrell's singing is pretty badass on this.

True. First impression is that the album is solid but if you're expecting something jaw-dropping after 5 years then you'll be disappointed.

Yes, a friend of a friend told me this: "right after I listened I grabbed 'this godless endeavor' and played that again instead."
