promotions are based on getting people intersted in a band's music. This includes reviews, advance copies and stuff like that.Even concerts are promotional.

advertising is hyping up printed materials, letting everyone know the product is coming out and what it offers.

these two aspects are handled by two different record company departments, i believe.

One is making sure the bands' name is "out there" (the ironically called "marketing" department) and one is responsible for making sure record stores have the ability to sell the damn thing (i.e. reps sending out samples and promos, giving out information to retailers, such as sales history ect.)

I sort of see it as the same. The label wants to get the band's name into the consumer's head so that if he/she sees a poster advertising a concert he'll think "oh hey, i've heard of them, i should go to that" or if he sees the album in a store he'll buy it... It's all just building interest in the band's name.

Yeah, but advertising and promotion mean basically the same thing - getting the band publicity. Which is what Jeff said.

The title reminds of of an exchange from a rather crappy film called Zombi 3

"But I'm thirsty.....

.....Thirsty...... FOR YOUR BLOOD!!!!!"

I can't stand A7X, nor to an even greater extent their fans. Urgh.

I gotta agree. One can really hate a band depending on thier fanbases attitude. My disillusioned record store owning friend agrees and refuses to listen to certain great bands due to some of the idiots that buy thier albums.

And he's not a bigger idiot for being put off a band for a silly reason like that?

Avenged Sevenfold? If I want to listen to Maiden melodies under driving Pantera riffs, I'll just listen to the bands who originated the sound...with better vox.

Things stated by Alexi Laiho:

*Slipknot's last CD was a "metal classic."

*Hates early neo-classical influenced albums

*Prefers mid-paced songs with 1 riff in them because they are more memorable when you hear them on the radio

*"There's nothing wrong with selling out..."

And on top of that, we get the aformentioned "it's going to be our most aggressive, fast bla-bla bla album yet" statement, which we all know in the past 6 or so years, is the kiss of death. This album will blow efficiently.

Yeah basically this post sums it up.

Are You Dead Yet? was so obviously a big downturn for COB. No one listened to them for choruses or structured songs or any of that stuff reserved for people who can write songs. They were good because it was basically Laiho, Wirman and Rattikainan saying "Look! Look what we can do!"

i listen to CoB for pimpin' riffs and other such fun catchy cheese, and are you dead yet is the best at that. also alexi's semi-catchy gruff vocals are way better than his ear aggravating scream
