We're definitely not cool enough to have a bitchin' release date like 6/6/06, like the SLAYER's new one.

I'm listening to the leak now. Up to song seven ('Hope'), and so far it's very good!

I'm at my first listen and it's kind of dissapointing. It doesn't have the speed or agression of Alien. It might grow on me in time, but it's not as good as Alien, I'm sure of it.

It's their best produced album so far from what I can tell. I've only listened to 2 songs though.

Just listened to it for the first time and I think it's pretty good. Far Beyond Metal is an awesome song.

You knew this was coming with SYL and Alien. Devin's music is becoming a collective rather than separate entities. A lot of his other styles are rooting themselves in his SYL shit. I think it's inevitable that the SYL of old is gone.

With the said, this album fucking rules! I think it's the best SYL record yet! City was amazing, but certain songs definitely had their shitty moments. This album is just fucking killer from beginning to end and you can hear every one of his solo projects on this album! Fucking awesome!!

The New Black has no anger, so i can't compare it to City or Alien. I also hate the guest vocal appearances, all (Both?) of them detract from the song they're on. But otherwise its great.

On a related note, I love the remaster of Heavy as a Really Heavy thing, it sounds soooooooooo much better.

My first impression is that it's the most coherent SYL album, but I would say it's probably not comparable, too. Pretty much every SYL album is different from each other so it's hard to compare any of them.

And yes, the remaster is great! The liner notes are hilarious.

With the second listen I liked this better. But this is still far worse than City and Alien, far far worse, those albums were ripping your friggin face off, this is just gay compared to them. I never cared for his other projects, I liked SYL for the aggression, so this album can't get higher than a 60 for me.

Didn't he say that SYL was his bitch and DTB his wife, SYL his yin and DTB his yang? Combining them was a stupid idea.

Well, he wrote and recorded this album extremely quick, within just a few months. Maybe he was still in Synchestra mode? I don't know. It's definitely more like Physicist than any SYL album. He probably just wasn't angry enough for this one. It definitely doesn't sound it. He's released a very successful album with Synchestra, his personal life has changed quite a bit now that he and Tracy are having a child (something out of the question in the past). He's likely just happy. This is a happy SYL album!

I predict this will be in my top 15 for 2006.

TNB gets an 85 from me, it would get 90 if they took out "You Suck", 95 if they took out all the guest vocals and 100 if Devin had spent a bit more time on it, since it seems like he could have improved the songs in a few places.

The chick on "Fucker" kind of stands out as an odd choice, but where else are the guest vocals a problem?

This cd is damn amazing so far! It doesn't fit with the SYL label, but holy shit the cd rules as a Devy record. Six tracks in and this cd looks like it is going to be very high on my '06 list.

Every song is fucking killer. Even though Fucker has a Korny riff in the beginning and the chick, that song is still killer! And I like the chick now. She fits well, it's just a surprise at first.

The New Black...HOLY! FUCK!! What a MONSTROUS song! Fucking brutal. The studio version of "Far Beyond Metal" is simply killer. Devin really needs to do that power metal album he mentioned doing!

It's definitely a different kind of SYL, but let's not pretend like AAA, Room 429, Love?, Info Dump, Possessions, Two Weeks, Thalamus, Aftermath, Bring On The Young, Filler/Sweet City Jesus, Force Fed, Spirituality and Zen are totally brutal, 100% SYL. All of those songs have very melodic moments, or are completely melodic. The New Black is no different, just because there may be more of one thing and less of another means nothing. And now that I've written all those songs out anyone that complains about this one is a turd.

Wrong Side is my favorite song so far. And you're right, Far Beyond Metal needed a studio version. "Far Beyond Metaaaaal!"

It reminds me of Infinity (war/colonial boy/bad devil, not the weird stuff) and Heavy as a Really Heavy Thing (cod metal king, syl and in the rainy season) the most. Maybe with a bit of the second half of City thrown in as well.

I don't like the guest vocals on "Wrong Side", "You Suck" and "Far Beyond Metal". Screw the guy from Gwar. I like the female vocals on Fucker because it makes that song remind me of KMFDM.

Now in the halls of the Necro Lord
Flash of fear when he sees my sword
Raped his woman, smoked his bone
Leave a booger underneath his throne!

Hahahahahahaha! WTF?
