Post subject:  Dumbest Fanbase In Metal?

Here's a new question: Which subgenre of metal would you say has the dumbest fanbase overall?

all of them are dumb except for grindcore.

black metal.. ha ha

don't get me wrong.. i love the music itself alot and i know there is good amount of decent ppl in the scene. But the scene full of retarded teens and adult who refuse to grow up, or simply refuse to realize their distorted view on the world is wrong - i'm not talking about ethics but simple objectivity.. Furthermore, when a big procentage of the scene litterally worship and idolize the way a few angry teenagers behaved in norway in the early 90's, you basicly have a scene that is controlled by teenage mentally... now, that's retarded!!! Not only that, that behaviour also goes completely against the concept of individuality. But apparently it is okay to apply double standards when you have a hat of fruit with an inverted cross on top of it.
I also hate the Dimmu Borgir fans who talk shit about regular black metal music... but then again, could u really call them black metal fans?!.. i think not, regular metalheads ( or teen fans trying to break away from their slipknot friends, perhaps)
Very narrowminded and very openminden bm fans annoy me, also...
Fans who use the music compensate for their own low selfesteem, lack of social abilities or lack of indentity also annoy me. I believe the metal genre as a whole attracks alot of social outcast of this character among teenagers, but i also believe black metal contain the largest amounts of these losers, at least it is the metal scene where i have seen the most. Luckely goths are a nothing but losers left oriented hippie anarchist losers, so at least we can take comfort in knowing how bad it could have been.

... i have very ambivalent feelings towards the fanbase and the scene in general. I would hate if ppl( or rather left oriented goth hippies or ignorant fools outside the metal scene*) agreed with me too " oh! you're on our side.. that'z fabulous!!!" -
*one probably has to understand the indirect battle between left oriented goths/anarchist hippies and black metal teenagers on a certain web-page to understand this.

i no longer call myself a black metaller or indentify myself as such. I no longer dress as a metalhead either ( ppl kept thinking i was a goth or satanist, despite looking nothing like that at all - oh the shame, the horrible shame.. everytime that happened i had to go home and wash off the shame and embarrassment). Now i'm just a somewhat left oriented semi-liberalistic semi-nationalist viking idiot in disguise. I really love myself

I can't choose the nu-metal fanbase?

BTW, I also voted for Black Metal fans. Not necessarily because of differing religious beliefs, but because many of them know absolutely nothing about religion beyond whatever bm band-x told them - and yet they still feel they can protest it because Mayhem said so (note: I'm not saying this applies to all BM fans, of course).

I actually thought about that after submitting this poll. But unfortunately, Metalreviews.com doesn't allow you to edit polls once they've been posted.

Of course, if any of the moderators want to add that in, it's cool. :)

Thrash, aaaaall the way.

Now don't get me wrong. The black metal argument is highly convincing.

But if you've spent 5 minutes at a thrash gig in Glasgow you'll know what knuckle-dragging means.

I love thrash. A lot of thrash fans are cool and know their shit. But, as a friend of mine and I have decreed, "Thrash is the bawbag genre."

I went with Black... see Astaroth's respons. I too love the music, but holy crap the fans can be so friggin lame.

Bah. I would've voted Black, but the kids who revolve 'round nu-metal are WAY dumber.

hmm... true... my only excuse not to vote on them is, i don't considere girls in scottish kilts and boys with crybaby makeup to be metal, or both jumping around to crappy music while pretenting to be cool and tough for that matter.
besides, i overlooked nu-metal option

There needs to be a "people who think that only the bands they like are 'real' metal and feel the need to mention this at every possible opportunity" category... 'cause I've run into people like that from every metal subgenre

and they're totally the most annoying

or maybe anyone who paraphrases the words "omg you only like X band(s) because of how obscure they are"

It depends what you mean by dumb.... If you had written "the most utterly ridiculous fanbase" it would have been BM without a shadow of a doubt.

But I voted in terms of general knowledge levels, and I think that the more mainstream and yoof orientated a genre of music is the less general knowledge its fans have. So, nu-metal.

I'd definitely say both black metal and the goth metallers.

I enjoy black metal a lot, one of my favourite genres. But you get a lot of narrow minded people around. And talk about the posers. Black metal definitely has the biggest poser population over here. They think it's cool. As for the narrow minded fucktards, I just can't stand them. They're views on many things (even non metal) are absurd because it's not kvlt enough. I know a guy from Kuala Lumpur studying in Ukraine now, who happens to be one of the biggest kvlt fellas around. He's so dumbfuckingly retarded that everybody hates him. And he's a type of a guy who only thinks black metal is good, the rest are shite. This was a part of a conversation I had some time ago. It was my last with him as well.

Me: So what do you listen to?
Ashok: Black Metal?
Me: Cool, anything else?
Ashok: No.
Me: Why not?
Ashok: Cos they're dumb. Black metal is the purest form of metal. Nothing beats it. Other metal are just gay and only fools listen to it.
Me: What? What bout Black Sabbath?
Ashok: Gay..
Me: Iron Maiden?
Ashok: Gay...
Me: Bodom (plus loads of other bands I can't remember saying)?
Ashok: Stupidest bands around. You can't compare black metal bands with any of these bands cos BM bands are in a totally greater league. Not even Priest, Saxon or Maiden are as good as BM bands.
Me:...........*signs out of MSN

As for my dislike over goths, it's cos of their dressing. I think they spend the most cash on attire compared to other genres. And the amount of make-up!!! Gosh!!! Plus, I find the goths here are lost people, or people with no sense of direction or whatsoever. You get goth retards at any gig, which doesn't even have a goth band playing. The girls are mostly into goth over here and they dress horribly. I remember the Napalm Death gig 3 weeks ago, there was this goth bitch with all the black makeover and thick makeup. Everyone gave a weird stare and she was obviously disturbed by us staring at her.

Nu-metal... Then thrash. then Black metal. Seeing little kids with Burzum shirts trying to be cool pisses me off. Then anyone close-minded about their one subgenre.

I voted nu-metal simply because most of the "fanbase" isn't really that, but rebellious teenagers latching onto whatever brand of music will piss their parents off the most/is causing the most controversy/is in fashion at the time. A lot of the kids who listened to Slipknot six years ago would probably be/are listening to Trivium now that metalcore's star is ascending. I wouldn't pick gothic metal simply because there's a huge difference between the people who listen to Paradise Lost or Draconian and the screaming fourteen-year-old fangirls who worship HIM. I'd lump them in more with the nu-metal fad-followers myself.

I also agree with noodles' opinion of those who say your opinion of a band is only based on their obscurity. That drives me nuts. One of my friends always calls me (me!) elitist, and nothing I say will convince him otherwise. Never mind I listen to Tool, Iron Maiden and Sonata Arctica along with Lacrimosa, Ensiferum and Swedish death metal bands no one's ever heard of not to mention that I do, in fact, own multiple Linkin Park, Korn and Disturbed albums. It also drives me nuts when people look down on you because you're a fan of a particular genre, and exclaim that you're missing out on so much, when they have no actual idea what the music you listen to actually is, and of course the idea that you've actually heard a wide variety of genres of music and simply happen to like one in particular never occurs to them. In a corollary (and even more off-topic), there are the people who say they listen to "everything," by which they mean they listen to everything on the radio. Never mind that American radio is owned by Clear Channel and every station plays the same fucking thing.

So in conclusion, it's the trend-followers who are the dumbest fanbase.
