MAIDEN!!!!!!! Apart from that, I think it's gonna be a shit fest though. My Chemical Romance and (gulp) Linkin Park headlining Friday and Saturday respectively... Does this mean that the other bands on those days will compliment the headliners? Does Linkin Park Headlining mean we have to endure some new shit from them this year? Will proper Monsters of Rock ever return to Donnington? I'm a whore that goes every year, feeding that corparate monster, and I have seen some gems each time (last Year Metallica owned the place, Dragonforce were amazing and GNR died on stage). So if you care, whaddaya think? |

I've been every year and had a reasonably good time, but me and the mates are boycotting it due to MCR. The Leeds and Reading festivals already exist and it looks like they're making this a 3rd one. After all the riots last year, booking MCR is asking for it I think. Went on the Festival forums to take a look and people are seriously pissed off. Especially due to the far more suitable acts that are on tours at around that time - Machine Head, Nine Inch Nails, Lamb of God, possible RATM reunion, possible Smashing Pumpkins reunion. People are just disappointed, myself included. |

Go to Sweden Rock, its the same weekend. So far its got Heaven & Hell, Blind Guardian, Falconer, Meat Loaf, Kreator and OMG JUST ANNOUNCED LIEK RITE NOW Iced Earth, Nocturnal Rites and Amon Amarth. Thanks for making me think to check the website! So yeah, Downlaod sucks, go to Sweden. They've still got 3 headliners to announce so hopefully they'll get Maiden. |

Agreed. I've done the Leeds/Reading Fesivals myself in the past and the last one I went to was when 50 Cents was the second headliner (3 years ago?), and it was far and away the worst festival I'd ever been to. I left on the Saturday night as I was so appalled by the line up and sheer bollocks that was on show. Point is, that when I first started going like in '91, '92, it was ok - a bit of an outing, but it just got more and more commercial over the years and spoilt it. Same is happening with Download, I fear. I think having Maiden, Linkin Park & MCR as headliners is far too diverse and just inviting trouble (considering the riots last year and the riots at Leeds when the line-up was too diverse). I mean the linkin park & MCR kids will get along fine, but the old schoolers will just end up getting pissed and pissed off with those Pseudo-goth kiddies, causing too much friction. Sunday day ticket and then Metalkamp in Slovenia for me this year! |

I think I'm gonna do Wacken next year. I'm off to Glastonbury this year, not due to the music for obvious reasons, just cos a few of my long time mates have invited me so I'm gonna go this year. If I can get a ticket that is. Gay hippies with their crazy ticket selling ways.... |

MetalCamp is awsome, better lineup last year though. But me and some bandmates will be there most likely! .:crast:. |

We'll have to exchange pms & emails if I go... It'd be odd to meet someone off this site! |

Never been to a festival... ![]() I was gutted that Slayer played there and not Download, but I saw the Unholy Alliance, so worked out nice!! I've never seen Pearl Jam, which is odd as I used to be a big fan like 15 years ago. Anyway, point being that I try to do one Major Festival each year, as it is quite the carnival and it's good to see the odd band you support. However you do also get the opportunity to see bands you'd never dream of seeing. In my time I've seen and suffered The Strokes, Eminem, Papa Roach, Ash, 50 Cent, The Rasmus, Ill Nino and plenty others. But I can also say I've seen David Bowie, The Pixies, Nirvana and Run DMC. Swings and roundabouts I guess! |

Zad wrote: True. Hey, were you there for The Bottling of fitty? Still makes me giggle. Yeah, I was there and I joined in as such... It's kinda embarassing what I did as I was fucking hammered. My mates never forgave me as they simply couldn't believe what I did. I carry a hanky around with me at all times (geeky I know, but useful!), and I was so disgusted with the whole bunch of 'rappers' just bounding around the stage, shouting over a crappy backing track, with the odd gunshot sample going off every ten fucking seconds, I, er... crapped in the hanky and threw it at them. It got onto the stage and I remember one of them just kicking it off and then looking really disgusted. Suffice to say, my mates had to drag me away... |

There's a video somewhere on YouTube or something, if you non-Brits are wondering what the hell we're on about. |

The Murphys and the Wildhearts were the only good acts there that year. But the point is that the old school Punks do tend to come out in force for their faves as they did for Green Day & The Murphs, hence the reason why I reckon it got nasty for Fiddy. I love the punks at a festival though as they really don't give a fuck. I saw Rancid at Leeds 2001 and I swear to Satan that crowd had the biggest circle pit I'd ever seen, real scary stuff and I don't scare easy! |
