Post subject: | Soundtracks & Soundtrack influenced music |
Last night I picked up The Fountain's OST because I liked Requiem for a Dream's (even though when I watched The Fountain I didn't notice the music as much as I did for while I was watching Requiem). Anyways listening to it I was really pleased to hear that instead of being minute long, repetitive segments the music is actually shaped into songs. But what interested me most about it is how much it reminded me of the arrangements to The Mars Volta's Frances the Mute (one of my favourite albums), especially Miranda That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore. It also made me listen to Danny Elfman's Serenada Schizophrana (his non-soundtrack album) because that's the only similar thing I could think of that I have and when I like an album in a style of music I tend to just want to listen to more stuff from that style. I also downloaded Max Richter's new album because my friend said that he could make his violin's sound like the suicide note of a heartbroken lover or something really meaningful like that. so... do you knows any good soundtracks / soundtrack sounding music / rock music that is highly influenced by film scores? Or just general discussion or whatnot. |

The soundtracks for Gladiator and Whale Rider are awesome. They're basically Lisa Gerrard albums. |

That's the first thing I thought of... There are some good composers around. Francois Tetaz did the music for Wolf Creek, pretty good. Kaada is ok too, and on Ipecac. And Charles (see, I listen!) recommended the War of the Worlds album to me, which probably isn't what you're looking for, but is film-related. Edit - and you probably know it already, but check Zombi out. On Relapse, I think... Edit - And check the soundtrack to Desperado out. It's done by a great band called Los Lobos... |

Is there anyone else here except for me that totally loves this record? It's Jeff Wayne's musical version of The War of the Worlds. With loads of extracts from the book narrated by Richard Burton and some key roles played by some 70s musical personalities including the godlike Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy. The music is prog rock all the way through describing the destruction of Victorian England in music and songs. Seriously, if you listen to this alone in the dark it is really, super super scary, and some of the songs stand alone in their own right as great works. Anyhoo, when people say cool film soundtracks to me I often think of Argento and Fulci ![]() I don't know if it's what you're looking for, noodles, but I can't recommend enough that you track down Goblin's soundtrack to Suspiria, and Keith Emerson's soundtrack to Inferno (both by Argento) On a related note, Morte Macabre were recommended to me by Misha and Stefan. They play proggy ambient stuff influenced by people like Fabio Frizzi and Riz Ortolani, who composed music for 80s Italian horros such as Zombi 2 and Cannibal Holocaust. Necro stuff ![]() Morte Macabre myspace http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu ... d=77424410 Sounds of Suspiria myspace- it contains bits of Goblin's Suspiria soundtrack and links to similar sites with music for loads of other Italian horrors (ZAD THIS IS FOR YOU TOO!) http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu ... d=83880954 |

I grew up with that album dude, It used to scare the shit outta me when I was little but I still went back for more. Maybe that's why I'm such a prog head now! |

Here's a recommendation for anything into atmospheric music. Supersilent - I've only heard their "6" album but its great. I couldn't find any samples on the web (I don't think myspace's sound quality could get their music across at all though), but they're sort of improvised, really visual/atmospheric, unpredictable (but not in a constant-chaos sort of way like a lot of free-jazz is) and dark. |
