Post subject: Stupid CD Related Question

They say that if you scratch the label side of a CD, it's perminantly damaged. Well, I was listening to Superunknown (by Soundgarden) today and accidentally peeled some of the CD's label off (but the remaining "label side" was unharmed). Will that alone damage the CD? I didn't want to listen to the entire CD a second time today since it's a 70+ minute album. Instead, I played bits and pieces of each song and they sounded fine.

How did you peel the label off??

Basically, the media part of a CD is place closer to the top of the CD. That way the bottom can get scratched and scuffed and still work. I have many CDs with nicks and whatnot on the top and they play fine. The problem is when you nick that reflective part. If you hold the CD up to the light and look at it from the bottom (silver side) and you can see light coming through from the top, then it'll skip.

It depends on the CD. If it's a good quality one, Minor scratches are still acceptable. But since you peeled the label side, it doesn't matter, your CD is fucked. Sorry to break your bubble. :D

I simply made minor scratches on the label. Everything else is fine.

I bought a Roland Grapow album for about £1.50 that has a small patch of the front label missing that you can see right through and it plays alright.
