Alright, so I have this assignment for school that I have to find something that relates to the Greek gods in today's world--advertisements, products, parts in movies, whatever...and as you might have guessed one of the options is songs. So, I need a song about mythology...any good ones? Also, it has to be about the gods...not the fall of Troy or the House of Atreus (I saw a CD by that name somewhere around here). This thread may die hopelessly if there's no good songs about mythology, but whatever...

The Atreus cd's you saw were by Virgin Steele. They also have an album Invictus, that is heavily based on the structures of Greek Mythology. While you will NOT find Zeus, Poseidon, Ares, and everyone else because the story is a creation of David DeFeis the concept is basically a new myth based on the ancient writings. As for actual songs about Zeus and whatnot.... shit, I'm at a loss for words.

Kiuas are a pagan metal band, where all of the members are Finnish Pagans, and virtually every one of their songs relates to mythology.

But I just realized that you wanted greek gods so thats not helpful at all.

Lots of bands deal with mythology, finding one about greek mythology is tougher than i thought.

The Odyssey by Symphony X comes to mind immediately. I haven't read all lyrics but with a name like that can it be any different. Try the title song.

New Ancient Rites album Rubicon mixes roman, greek and crusader themes. The lyrics are more historical but you might want to check that too. Templar and Rubicon are my fav. songs.

Of course if you were looking for northern mythology there's plenty. That's all i can think of right now.

All right, I'm going to check out that Symphony X song...sounds the most likely to have what I'm looking for. I'll come back to this with what I think of it.

This is probably a bit late, but if you did want to use The House of Atreus by Virgin Steele, you should be aware that its storyline does contain the Gods. Its based on The Oresteia, three plays by Aeschylus which deal with the murder of Agamemnon on his return from Troy, and the revenge taken by Orestes and Electra, his son and daughter. The Gods play a large role in this story: Apollo orders Orestes to murder Aegisthus and Clytemnestra, the murderers of Agamemnon (and also Orestes' mother and her lover), the Furies chase Orestes for his crime, Athena intervenes, etc... Probably too late, but what can you do?
