Post subject: Metal: A Headbanger's Journey

I feel like there was probably a post about this movie, but I looked back three pages and found none, so whatever.

Who else has seen this movie, and what did you think?

There were definitely a lot of topics sorely missed, but overall, I still enjoyed it. The movie sort of neglected the elitist hierarchy prevalent in the metal culture, and made it look as if metal elitists and slipknot kiddies would be all buddy-buddy.

But it was still good, and dove into some areas deeper than I would have expected, such as the black metal scene.

That's because there's a General Music forum now.

I enjoyed it. The bits with Mayhem were very, very funny. There was very little I didn't already know in it, but some of the talking heads were pretty good. I liked Dee Snider talking about the PMRC, for example.

A lot missed out, of course, but there was no way you could do everything justice without having a lengthy documentary series.

Is there anything more to the Mayhem bits than what everyone's seen in the original thread about it? (Who are they? Fock them!) From the sounds of it, I've seen the best bits already... :(

Umm, Mayhem are only in that one scene unfortunately. But there's an awesome interview with Gaahl in a darkened room in full "Satanic Gentleman" outfit.

Interviewer: So, what inspires the music of Gorgoroth?

*Long, long pause with Gaahl staring motionlessly about 90 degrees off camera*

Gaahl: ............Satan

*Long pause while Gaahl takes a sip of wine then goes back to staring into space*

An unbelievably kickass and fortunate thing happened today, this documentry was aired on national tv here. Shockingly awesome  .

Anyway, it was good. It did cover as much as it could, it could be better but you know, I'm cool with it. You don't see a documentary about something you've loved for 8 years every day. Congrats to the guy who made this.

The black metal parts were the best. The Mayhem and Gaahl interwievs were the highlight, no doubt about it. Of course they were hilarious. Especially Gaahl's amazing "Satan" word that took like 3 minutes to say.

I very much enjoyed it, despite the forgivable lack of scope and poor definitions of what actually constitutes Metal (I don't want to see Korn members getting interviewed in Metal doc). There was also too much emphasis on how Metal gives strength and unity to the outsiders. Metal fans with any brains will hate around 80% of people who like the same music.

yeah seriously, sometimes i can't believe i actually respect the same bands as you. what the hell?

i think the hating other people who like the same music is because practically everyone who listens to metal does so for a different set of reasons.

Uuuuh....thanks? :?

I dislike most of the metalheads I meet because most of the population of Glasgow is made up of wankers or well-meaning morons. The ones that like metal are no different.

It's already been released on this side of the pond. It's probably already out there as well.
