Hello everyone,

Alright,I am looking for egyptian, middle eastern,roman-greco,and anything that is culturally inspired in any heavy metal genre.Preferably death metal, but just about anything goes.I really love Nile,Behemoth,Symphony X,Adagio(on Sanctus Ignis there is that great Order of Enlil),but it seems that this theme is hard to find.I also do not mind music like Karl Sander's Saurian Mediation,so cd's like Peter Gabriel's Passion are great as well.

If anyone could help me I would appreciate it very much!Again anything goes, from power metal to black and anything in between that has even a little influence that would be great! Thanks in advance!

Black metals pretty culturally influenced. Like Taake, Enslaved, Bathory, Burzum, early Behemoth......all makes me picture nordic forests or vikings.

Elvenking have folk influences in their power metal, their new album rocks!

meh, my music knowledge sucks. Wait till Zad and Kathaarian and Stefan and Eyesore get on.(They know everything)

If you haven't already, you can try Page & Plant - No Quarter(94): you have there middle eastern and celtic influences. Also Walking into Clarksdale(98) is good.

I don't know if folk/viking metal is what you're looking for, but I'd suggest Ensiferum, Finntroll, Falkenbach and Suidakra.

Do you know Orphaned Land? Middle Eastern melodeath, also crast is very wisein suggesting Melechesh, who are a bit like a blackened thrash equivalent of Nile.

For northern European folk influences my current favourite is Korpiklaani.

Melechesh, Orphaned Land - eastern stuff.
Mystic Forest - French poems and shit like that
Amon Amarth, Bathory, Moonsorrow, Ensiferum, Korpiklaani, Isengard - Viking and Folk shite
Absu - Celtic mythology
The Meads of Asphodel - Medieval, religious and sort of politic shit

I'll write more when I can think of other stuff.

Timo Kotipelto first solo album was inspired by the egyptian mythology.
Falconer has some nice folk tunes on their first 2 albums.
Battlelore also dwell in the fantasy viking stuff, you should try them too.

Can't think of anything else right now.

Lol Zeth,

I should have been more specific,I am looking for the more middle eastern tinged sound, though I do like celtic/folk metal, and it is good to know that the new Elvenking is great.Still though,I am more enraptured by the orient.

Melechesh is a great find, thanks!I'll add them to my list as well as Hollenthon and Orphaned Land.BTW does Hollenthon's new album retain some of the oriental vibe?

Also,is Timo Kotipelto's first cd just subject inspired or does it have that sound?Sorry to be so demanding, but thanks for the patience.

And wow,I love tech-death and heard Lykathea Aflame mentioned but couldn't find any samples till now on their myspace page.Wow are they great!Death metal is my favorite overall genre so their style really hits the spot. Thanks again everyone and keep them comin!

As I remember the focus was more on the lyrics. Some songs still had the egyptian vibe though, mostly Chosen By Re, but if you are expecting an album full of songs like Symphony X - Egypt, well this is not it.
Nocturnal Rites have a nice egyptian song called Egyptica. :D

Thanks for the info PyroMan.I might still check that cd out as well as Nocturnal Rites.

I'll check out Blacmore's Night when I get the chance FrigidSymphony, thank you for the mention.

How is Chimaira's self titled album?I've heard Nothing Remains and the midsection has a nice egyptian esque quality to it.Is the rest of the cd ok,or does it delve pretty deeply into metalcore?

Man I can't till payday next week! :D
