Post subject:  Album ratings

I waited a long time to make this thread.

So how does everyone around here rate albums (I mean the reader voting and not only that)? By what criteria? And do you use MR's quote box in order to rate?

I personally use two criteria:
1. How much do I like it;
2. How much original it is.

E.g. I can adore an album, but if it offers nothing new then the maximum mark it can get is 75 (id est 7.5/10). Or if I don't care a rush about an opus, but this particular one invented a brand new genre then it would get 80-85 from me.

I don't think this topic will bring anything particularly important to the boards, I was just curious seeing as how many people give 90-100 quotes to almost every single release out there. I hope this will also help to understand other people's choices better (I know only how a few members make their votes).

Here's what I posted a while ago :
here's the rating system I use :

Quote:
00-15 : awful
20-40 : poor
45-55 : average
60-70 : fair
75-85 : very good
90-95 : outstanding
99 : masterpiece
100 : perfection (this doesn't exist)

it's based on MR ratings but simplified... since I can't make a difference between 75 & 78, I use a 5 by 5 scale... and I never rate 100/100 thus I have a 99 for 'near perfect' albums...

too many people overrate albums, it's a shame because then you can't see the really good ones from the others... :?

and I just rate as my liking told me too... an AC/DC can very well get 99 while an über original recording can have a 20/100 or lower if I hated it...

and, btw, this thread already exists... here :

My bad, I haven't searched for a similar topic. The moderator can close this one then.
