Every active member of the board seems to listen to them a lot. Can you rate the first 5? It's hard, I like all of them so much. 1. Under a Funeral Moon 2. A Blaze in the Northern Sky 3. Panzerfaust 4. Transylvanian Hunger 5. Soulside Journey There is my order, what's yours? |

Currently I'd say: 1. A Blaze In the Northern Sky 2. Soulside Journey 3. Panzerfaust 4. Under a Funeral Moon 5. Transilvanian Hunger More out-there or individualistic over the hypnotic, but of course that's a mood thing. I love them all, but where eg A Blaze's demented Celtic Frostisms are always a good time, Tranny Hunger is always a very specific mood and so gets the least playtime of them all. My first proper black metal album, still hits like a brick to the face of course. Now you've said this I am going to relisten to them (not necessarily all at once) and see if that holds up - can see Panzerfaust and UaFM rising, especially. |

Yeah I just listened to them all again which is why I asked. Never rated Funeral Moon at the top before, which is why I wanted to see where everyone was currently. Blaze was my first Darkthrone album, and probably first black metal album other than Nightside. |

Still working on my re-listens but after Under A Funeral Moon might slip down to fifth so far, it lacks the hypnotic qualities of TH or the more interesting songwriting of the others. (yes I know I wrote a classic review of it, haha) Times change, opinions too. Goat wrote: Currently I'd say:

Alright, fine, you made me relisten to TH versus UAFM and much as I'd rather not admit it, TH is better as a more consistent album top to bottom. I love the first two tracks on UAFM and the title track so much but the middle three is a step down in quality. Updated ranking A Blaze TH UAFM Panzerfaust Soulside. Same rankings as Husker now! |
