That time already!

Big announcement this afternoon - new Ihsahn in March. Hear the first single, complete with Matt Heafy guest vocal spot, here:

Not bad. Bit of a throwback to his earlier stuff, which is a good thing as I think he was getting a bit too abstract and experimental.

Confident from Ihsahn. He seemed to be a bit side-tracked by his last offering. Going back to the roots is always a good idea for a man of his caliber. Sounds like he still likes his Diamond and Fate. Lyric-wise, Nietzsche is still his true God. He might have also read a page or two from Jung.

Other than the unnecessary guest! spot, I enjoyed this Ihsahn track. Surprisingly straightforward and with a nice, but not too long shred type of solo.

Urgehal (feat Nocturno Culto)

Sounds potentially :dio: Apparently their last album after the death of their original vocalist.

New Cobalt! With the new, non-racist/homophobic/whatever singer, who's the guy from Lord Mantis. Sounds a bit less black metal than I'd hoped, but suitably chaotic. Hoping for a good follow-up to Gin.

Excellent, hoping they reunited to move a bit back towards metal and away from Jefferson Airplane covers.

New Cobalt album is insane. I'm also excited to hear the new Lord Mantis EP.

IMPERIUM DEKADENZ are now revealing that their forthcoming album has been given the title 'Dis Manibvs', which means translated from Latin "To the Spirits of the Dead" - basically meaning "In Remembrance" and originally found on antique Roman grave markers. The German black metal veterans will release their fifth full-length on August 26th.

Cool.

Also, new Gorguts EP out soon. One long song!

Listened to the first few minutes off from the new Gorguts EP. More destructive riffage filled with dissonance and strange harmony. A natural progression (and continuation) from Coloured Sands. The booklet is very educational and informative.
