Interesting on the Nile side-project.

Guess I was scooped on the MDB by the newsbot, but

Love the artwork:

The more I hear that new MDB song, the more I like it. Looking forward to the album!

Yeah new MDB looks like running close to album of the year for me. Also getting excited by the prospect of a new Maiden record in spite of myself. Trying to think what other albums are coming this year.

Yeah, as I said in the news thread where I gave my own mini review, I don't really care how much clean singing vs death metal vocals there are anymore at this point, because MDB has their own style of guitarwork that is so distinct and well, fantastic too. Plus Shaun Taylor Steels is their best ever drummer so I am glad they are sticking with him as their permanent session guy, his patterns and fills really contributed to the rejuvenation of the band circa Dreadful Hours.

Track 2, To Shiver in Empty Halls, is already confirmed for having death metal, so it'll be there.

Barghest O'Whitby and A Map of All Our Failures definitely have them on a winning streak: lets hope it lasts until they decide to end the whole thing.

Absolutely. Sounding solid so far.

In other, non-MDB news, the new Nile is sounding sharp.

Awesome, I knew it was gonna be fun reading the lyrics when I saw the disclaimer, lots of respect for Karl and company to go there. More importantly this sounded much, much better than the forgettable Gate of Sethu. Very cool that MDB and Nile have new full-lengths coming out within a month as they were 2 of the first bands I started listening to back in 2000. Neither band has always been perfect, but both have always been respectable.

I'm going to restrain myself and not listen to any samples from the new MDB. Same thing with the new Maiden. However, excitement is still very much present.

Yeah I'm also going to avoid any samles from the new MDB or Maiden albums. I like to approach a new album without preconceptions or prejudices. Doesn't always happen though.

That lyric video really ruined it for me. Not knowing Nile's lyrics goes along way towards that song sounding better.

New My Dying Bride is solid.

Like with most death metal bands, I prefer the vocals buried and incomprehensible, though not necessarily to Lord Worm levels. The most important part of that track is the music was actually interesting.

Can anyone think of a band with very similar guitar stylings as MDB? Would be all ears if there is one.

The Antichrist Imperium: https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-ANTI ... 0269833248

From Apocalyptic Witchcraft:

Quote:

"The Antichrist Imperium presents a contemporary presentation of vintage Akercocke songs and ideas left in the rehearsal room archives since 2007... Stunt guitar embalmer Matt Wilcock ( The Berzerker, Akercocke, Belligerent Intent) and Blast war Undertaker David Gray ( Akercocke, The Berzerker, My Dying Bride, Voices) exhume the infernal sonic artillery from the sixth Akercocke album that never was & present its rancid remains for your listening pleasure. Fellow conspirator Sam Loynes (Voices, Shrines) provides an innovative contemporary vocal performance alongside Aussie legend Sam Bean (The Berzerker, The Senseless) who delivers the traditional death metal werewolf embellishment. Past and present collide in a harrowing frenzy of Death, Black, thrash & progressive metal flavours to energize and revitalise the spirit of the Antichrist in 2015."

This sounds very promising. Art work can be seen on their FB page.

Gray is one of my favorite drummers. Thought it was so cool that MDB got him to be their touring drummer for a year.

Not sure what to make of them covering Berzerker. Weren't half of them in Berzerker? Sounds awesome, though.

New Cattle Decapitation out today, need to catch up on new releases! If it's as good as their last, though...

It's solid. A tad disappointed that I hadn't heard it mentioned till just a few days ago.

Early reports about the new Maiden are coming in, and it sounds promising. First single out Friday I think.

New Deafheaven is interesting: http://pitchfork.com/news/60829-deafhea ... the-water/

Maintains its awkwardness, but does it in a way that is probably much more acceptable to metal audience's. And it received Kim Kelly's seal of approval.

Some sort of additional promo song they did for that magazine. Certainly reminiscent of Cry of Mankind, wouldn't you say? Like the guitar melodies and violin but the lyrical theme/pace of the track make me glad they chose not to include that one on the full-length. Meanwhile, on the MDB forum, some press people have talked about hearing the new full-length, and the already released song was termed atypical. Supposedly the balance is much closer to 50-50 clean/unclean on the vocals than the last several full-lengths and one person compared it to Turn Loose the Swans. This sort of stuff sounds pretty trollish if you ask me, but I still thought to pass it along.

This actually isn't bad, although I like the melodic parts more than the yaaaaaaaargh look how black metal we're trying to be parts.

It's fairly typical for the band, yeah. Not good news if that other new song was out of the ordinary, MDB really should mix it up more often. Does sound trollish, but hey.
