it's that time of year

Here's Kurt Ballou's list of the favourite albums he worked on: http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2 ... _kurt.html

For me my standout three are:
La Dispute - Rooms of the House
The Hotelier - Home, Like Noplace is There
Pianos Become the Teeth - Keep You

they're p. similar which points to a trend in my tastes. Was also lucky enough to see all three bands live this year.

Albums aren't tunes, silly.

A lot of obvious bands released good stuff this year. Like if you enjoy Behemoth, Panopticon, Thou, Twilight, Origin, Slough Feg, Cannabis Corpse, etc, they released good albums this year, you'll enjoy them. Albums that stand out, that kinda made me do a second take and really get excited about something new:

Pallbearer - Foundations of Burden (I loved their last album, and this one still blew my mind.)
Full of Hell & Merzbow (a drone band and grind band made an album. noise and chaos up to 11.)
Code Orange - I Am King (what I thought was a pop punk band released the best of noisy hardcore albums.)
The Body - I Shall Die Here (criminally underrated band outdoing themselves once again.)
Have a Nice Life - The Unnatural World (everything I want out of post-punk noise rock stuff)
Deafest - Alpine Expanse (amazing Cascadian bm EP.)
Saor - Aura (just now digging my teeth into it, but I'm loving it. beautiful celtic bm.)
Blue Pills - s/t (lady-fronted heavy metal, real bluesy sounds like Led Zeppelin plus Jex Thoth, a more upbeat Royal Thunder, etc.)

Slough Feg, Pallbearer and Code Orange are cool. Didn't know Cannabis Corpse had a new one (or maybe I did??) I should listen to that.

In no particular order:

Behemoth - The Satanist
Primordial - Where Greater Men Have Fallen
Bloodbath - Grand Morbid Fuenral
Primal Fear - Delivering The Black
Grand Magus - Triumph and Power
Triptykon - Melana Chasmata
Insomnium - Shadows Of A Dying Sun
Vader - Tibi Et Igni
Opeth - Pale Communion

Mayhem and Septicflesh disappointed. Still have to give 1349 a proper listen.

Also add in Vallenfyre- Splinters. Great death metal release.

Maybe better than the new Bloodbath!

Hmm, wasn't as impressed with the Vallenfyre as I was with Bloodbath, maybe I should give it more listens...

Still working on my end of year list, but Opeth, Conan, Blut aus Nord, Godflesh, Ghost Brigade, Primordial, Artificial Brain, Kriegsmaschine, Panopticon, and Bloodbath have all been good. I really must spend more time with the Triptykon, I still feel that it's a bit too long and would be an excellent album minus a track or two. Voices, Scar Symmetry, Taake, Teitanblood and Dark Space deserve a shout too...

One of those ones that just fell through the cracks for me, should try and hear it as I've heard lots of good things, cheers for the reminder!

EXODUS

and
Overkill
Pallbearer
Vader
Tankard (their worst in a while though)

...and that's all I can think of.

Anybody hear the newest Cavalera Conspiracy yet? I've read that it's quite good, but haven't picked it up yet.

Thought it was ok but pretty basic and typical for CC/Soulfly these days. Couldn't think of much interesting to say so didn't review it.

Sounds good enough for this guy. From what I've read, it's the most "brutal" of the 3 albums. Haven't really listened to much new Soulfly, save the 2 albums I own, Conquer and Dark Ages, which admittedly are still pretty new.

New Cavalera Conspiracy was pretty good. I think it is better than their first, but not their sophomore album.
