so it's summer or at a very warm spring here in são paulo now, and for a few years now i find that i cut back on metal during this time of the year. and when i do listen, it's rarely the really heavy shit. am i the only one?

it just feels so... oppressive sometimes. like you're in a crowded bus and your balls are drowning in their own sweat and hour of penance comes on and you just feel ugh, no. you can't even.

It depends. I find myself listening to less black metal and more stuff like Baroness. But I try and keep a mix of stuff all year around, and my tastes change mainly according to mood so it doesn't make a huuuge difference.

+1. But in the heat of the summer concert season, I always hope for an indoor show for the extreme metal bands. I remember moshing to a entire Cannibal Corpse set in 105 degree weather and then wanting to lay down and die shortly afterward. Need to stop skipping cardio day!

Summer is the best time to crank the metal. Driving around with the windows down and your favourite tunes on loudly is a perfect way to spend an evening.

Fucking Skid Row and Motley Crue all spring. And then stuff like Baroness that's kinda pretty or stuff that is more like hardcore, like Converge or Trap Them. No black metal gets played and I'm almost bitter that black metal bands release albums in the summer, because I have to just sleep on them. I'm finally just now giving the new Panopticon and Fall of Rauros' albums some spins.

funny that two of you mentioned Baroness - that's one of my summer picks!

I listen to metal all year. Although when you mention it, this past spring/summer I checked out a lot of stuff that I didn't care for before, and actually started digging the hell out of.

I can listen to traditional BM in summer. It's not a problem. However, listening to BM when it's -30 is something quite special. I also find listening to down-tempo electronica is quite apt for the cool summer breezes and hot summer days.

It does set the mood quite nicely during the winter, especially with the slower, more atmospheric stuff like Agalloch or early Ulver. Immortal also gets a lot of airplay from me during the snowy months.

I just rebought Sons of Northern Darkness, Pure Holocaust and Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism. Indeed, The bitter cold goes very well with Immortal.
