2005, I guess? 16.

I'm counting when I began going to concerts and really finding music for myself. I had kinda grown up listening to Zeppelin and Sabbath with my dad, and White Zombie, Pantera, Metallica and Tool with my older brother since 1995 when I was six. I know this date because I looked up Mortal Kombat 3 for the SNES and that's what we used to play while we listened to his tape/CD collection.

Would of been around 2002-2003 for me, 8th grade, so like 13-14 years old. Started with the basics, Metallica and such. My grade 7 teacher use to call me "Metallica" or "Slayer" (didn't know who Slayer was at the time) because he knew I liked Metallica and he use to be into that shit back in the day.

My sisters introduced me to stuff like Tool and Rage Against the Machine in 2000-2001 which got me into the whole angry music thing. Then in 2004 when I was a young lad of 16 I was playing Warcraft 3 and became friends with people in a clan called Heavy Metal Aggression (xHmAx) and they got me into Fear Factory and Static-X. Around the same time I bought Strapping Young Lad's Heavy as a Really Heavy Thing because the name was funny and found it beautiful hilarious and terrifying.

Late 70s for me. Heard Priest whilst hanging out with some older kids, though I was already weaned on Sabbath Zeppelin etc from as far back as I can remember, since thats what my old man listened to.

They say you never outgrow the music you grew up with. Sounds about right.

It was exactly 13 years ago (I was 16). It started with Metallica and Scorpions. A few years after, my taste had already been refined with bands like Therion and Windir thanks to the friends I hung out with back in the day.

that is awesome, man. you saw Metal as it happened and grew.

i'd say i really started to enjoy metal around the time i was 16-17. before that i listened to a lot of nu metal and Metallica, my "angry music" stage started a bit earlier, around age 13.

My dad was a hardcore metalhead, so I was kinda hearing it all from the age of 0, but I was never into it too much.

I enjoyed classical music, but it bored the hell out of me, so I was looking for some kind of modernized classical music, but couldn't find anything (sounds silly now, but back then the internet and mr. google hadn't been at my reach yet).

But then at the ahe of about 15 I had an accidental conversation with a classmate about the subject, after which he gave me his Rhapsody's "Power of the Dragonflame"...and my life was never the same again :D :dio:

I became a true metalhead when I heard Sunbather. Then from there after I prostituted my body I bought Follow the Leader, Iowa, and Battle Hymns and my life nor my anus have ever been the same.

2002-2003, at the age of 14-15. I first got into Metallica, but that didn't really encourage me to go and find more metal. It was only when my friend introduced me to Shadows Fall and In Flames that I really started getting into it and going out to look for more.

Good gateway bands there. I basically started with Sepultura, then In Flames and Hypocrisy, then the levee broke.

In the 6th grade, so I'd say around 1998. Started off with solo Ozzy, Metallica, GNR and all the industrial and nu-metal stuff that was happening at the time. Eventually got into underground thrash and death metal when I started college and began reading all the metal rags like Metal Hammer, Terrorizer and Brave Words/Bloody Knuckles. Bands like Darkthrone, Dissection, Candlemass, Enslaved and many others entered my musical lexicon and began drowning out pretty much every other genre. It's been a central part of my life for a long time now and that doesn't look to be changing any time soon.
