Learnt to play their instruments and paid more for recordings? Read a good interview with them in the latest Zero Tolerance - they're still proud of their early stuff, and glad that people in 2013 appreciate them. Less worried about the new album, now.

I admire Heartwork more than I like it, at this stage. Necro, on the other hand, is a fun album.

I feel like getting calmer and more melodic as they age is a trend dozens and dozens of metal bands have gone through.

I remember an interview with either Bill Steer or Jeff Walker in about 2004-05 where they talked about the evolution.

Some comments I can recall:

- They got sick of layering stuff and wanted to simplify.
- They didn't really know what they were doing in the early days and are amazed people love Reeks of Putrefaction.

I personally like all the Carcass stuff including Swansong. I even play Reeks of Putrefaction now and then, though it does require a peculiar state of mind.
