This genre does not have a great fan-base but those who admire it, admire it wholeheartedly and with great love. Share your thoughts on the genre as a whole and recommend bands that you think members will enjoy and find interesting to explore. From the transcendence of Skepticism to the sheer bliss-darkened of Esoteric, to everything in between, please do share your thoughts on this unique genre. |

Isn't there a thread like this already in the Doom forum? This isn't ebd's proposed guide to so...

yes there is a thread exactly like this which seems to have completely died, I understand why he would start a new one when any attempts to revive the old one seem to have failed dismally but I fear this thread will suffer the same fate, I may not have been here long but I haven't observed much, if any, interest in funeral doom from most forum users, myself excluded as I have quite enjoyed funeral doom since stumbling across it by accident a couple of weeks ago new band to check out: Reclusiam (posted one of their songs in the rate the song above you thread I started but it got a rather low rating for some unknown reason) their demo is available for free download from their website www.reclusiam.com or you can view the song Litanies Of Rust And Decay on youtube also Mournful Congregation, masters of funeral doom, just check out The Monad Of Creation on youtube, funeral doom masterpiece |

yeah you didn't like it because it was slow and didn't get any quicker which seems to me is actually the point of funeral doom but whatever different strokes for different folks I guess have learned funeral doom probably isn't the best thing to listen to when you have a feeling of impending doom caused by an exam you know despite your best efforts you will fail because you aren't even close to prepared enough for it |

I had imagined that Emperor would jump to such a thread but it seems he is care free or hasn't checked the forums for a while. In any case, yes, I thought maybe this would be a good chance to spread the word of Funeral Doom throughout the pages and get some recommendations for all posters and whatnot. |

Catacombs - In The Depths Of R'lyeh is (in my opinion) a fine funeral doom album Ahab - Divinity Of Oceans is likewise a solid to good funeral doom release Skepticism - Lead and Aether is right up there as well Mournful Congregation - The June Frost and The Monad Of Creation are my two favourites and not just because the band is Australian Reclusiam - Reclusiam demo is to my ears at least great, and it's free if you don't mind downloading from the bands website disEMBOWELMENT- disEMBOWELMENT rounds out my funeral doom at present and probably doesn't actually count |

I would also add bands such as Colossem, Evoken, Shape of Despair, Tyranny, Thergothon, Profetus and Esoteric. |

you can find Reclusiam's Litanies Of Rust And Decay on youtube or download their demo for free at www.reclusiam.com, bonus to free download is if you don't like it at least you aren't out of pocket I've heard a bit of Shape Of Despair, Evoken and Thergothen but as I only started looking into funeral doom about a month ago haven't really got a great deal of knowledge in the field, I've also heard a bit of Worship which may just be the most depressing music I have ever, ever heard (not that I'm complaining) so I'd add them as well |

^^ I'll agree with that. The female vox on that album are some of the weirdest, most disturbing I've ever heard. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=holulZw1szw Not everyone is going to like this, but whatever. |

I am fairly new to the genre. So, this thread is pretty helpful. I've listened to Abstract Spirit's Tragedy and Weeds(a recommendation by ebd), Thergothon and Ea. So far, my interest is growing. Shape Of Despair and Skepticism are probably the next two bands I will listen to. |
