Incantation - Christening the Afterbirth

It took me *years* to get into Incantation. Too dark, too nasty, too unmusical... Fucking superb death metal, however, dank and doomy, hell as a fetid sewer rather than a boiling pit.

I generally don't like melodic death metal because in my experience it's never all that heavy but this is an exception I quite like this 9/10

Unsure of what I just heard there, but that shit was fucking awesome. I hear dashes of Portal and Dolorian and Inquisition all thrown into a blender and fucking dig it. Some real atmospheric shit there 8/10.

This was excellent, 8.5/10. Good doom/death is so hard to find these days, and this main riff is massive. Really liked the melodic outro too.

I won't touch that Ulver track though (which I like a lot), I'll give someone else a turn.

No takers I see. Well this track is still a gem of the melodic side of Norwegian black metal. The acoustic breaks are stellar (a harbinger of how good their acoustic album would be), the clean chants are mesmerizing, and last but not least, the black metal parts drive heavy (with blastbeats) at time and melodic at others. I'd rank it as the second most memorable track from Bergtatt (Track 1 being the most), an album I've listened to countless times. Bergtatt used to be the consensus black metal pick on this forum back in 2005 when it was very black metal themed, and it is easy to see why. 9/10

Well it is good you still love it. I used to, but now it feels a little stale. The cheap sounding keyboard parts didn't age very well. Early Arcturus had a tremendous sound, with brilliant guitar play/drumming/vocals, but I don't think the song-writing was anywhere near that Ulver album you just posted a track from. La Masquerade Infernale had a far more polished sound, I would say.

I've never been a big Deicide fan, but this song gets the job done well enough. Great tempo throughout, and liked the vocals in the middle. 7.5/10.
