Heh, glad you liked it so much. Don't think you'll find anyone that will argue that Mezzo Forte wasn't Virgin Black's best album.

The opening spoken clean vocals had me worried this band was carbon copying Serenades, but fortunately that proved to not be the case. The various vocal stylings weren't a strength for me, but I like the directions the music goes in, particularly the synths. 7.5/10.

Actually, I prefer Fortissimo and still have a soft spot for Sombre Romantic given its experimental nature. But And I Am Suffering is a sick track. On coming back to the question, you may be right about Mezzo Forte...

Anathema - Mine is Yours to Drown In. Never paid much attention to Anathema. It was decent, but never did anything that stood out to me. A decent atmosphere. 6/10

Paradise Lost - Ash & Debris: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RxC07iLG5E[/quote]

The best Paradise Lost album since Draconian Times, an album that is one of my favorites of all time. This song encapsulates the classic PL sound, heavy, melodic, emotional. Just love it.

Memento Mori - Sixteen Tons

Candlemass has been my favourite doom band since I heard Tales of Creation in 1989. Never really been into Memento Mori, but just the fact that Messiah Marcolin was their vocalist makes me interested.

It isn't my favourite track from Forest Of Equilibrium but by no means does that mean it isn't a great song 8/10

Never heard the dudes, but that was interesting. Like Alice in Chains covering Candlemass or something. 7/10.

We the Gods is a good track from a good ep, though I prefer the buildup from Kingdom a bit to this. The part at 3:30 and then the ending melody are excellent. 8/10.

nope, not keen on this at all, the clean passages were either boring or pop-ish, the heavy parts sounded like hackneyed Black Sabbath worship and the solo felt out of place and forced to my ears. I like Cathedral's early work circa Forest Of Equilibrium and Ethereal Mirror

Nevertanezra - Seperation Anxiety

unfortunately my favourite track from this new(ish) band isn't on youtube so this will have to do

Some great riffage, especially at the beginning, and the end, not as keen on the vocals, but solid stuff overall, 7.5/10.
Cute little shift from slow to fast at 3 minutes too (made me think of MDB's Symphonaire track)

Very solid band, not one of my favorites from them, but the soloing is good, and the main riff is memorable. 7.5/10.

I remember this band, a friend of mine was a big fan of their debut album. It seems the band has changed a lot since. This kind of operatic metal doesn't appeal to me much. It's well played and not too boring but lacks that je-ne-sais-quoi which make me want to raise my fist and yell. Not a great fan of the "unclean" vocals, they lack power and viciousness to really work.
5/10

Quote this now:
Ancestors - Bounty of Age (from Of Sound Mind, 2009)

Put me in mind of Green Carnation's Light Of Day, Day Of Darkness albeit much shorter. Like that album-song there were parts I enjoyed and others I did not. Overall I liked more then I disliked 7/10

Not my fav genre and nothing I would listen to on a regular basis at all. Lacks memorability and is also quite repetitive. Very bareboned and simplistic. 5/10
