Still a big step for the Mortiis lovers at Metal Archives.

They should have been on there from the beginning. Idiots run that site.

It's funny how different prog and metal are in that area.
Progarchives, which is basically the same thing as Metal Archives for progressive musics, widens the spectrum as much as they can. If these guys took care of MA, there'll be Living Colour, Bon Jovi & Limp Bizkit in it... And a ton of interesting bands that got rejected for not being metaaaaal enough while they certainly are important to development of the genre (Wishbone Ash, Uriah Heep, BÖC, etc.).
Not sure which approach is the best but that of the progsters seems more open and friendly.

Yeah, some things on Prog Archives are definitely, somewhat, well, jarring, but very interesting, nonetheless. Metal Archives on the other hand seems to be very elitist and straight close minded. Some metal heads are just completely elitists and cannot be named "open-minded" in any shape or form. It's just the way it is.

Metal archives just decided to draw a line in the sand, and appear elitist only because they are extremely tired and sick of arguing with people over what is metal and what isn't. It is their site, after all. I would much rather have it pure personally.

There are plenty of other places to discover bands like Uriah Heep, try not to lose any sleep over it.

Why should Deep Purple be in Metal Archives and not Uriah Heep or Led Zeppelin? Why Thin Lizzy and no Wishbone Ash? It just doesn't make sense.
A site that doesn't make sense loses part of its credibility.

Agreed. While I've noted some inconsistencies before, like many here, nothing included or not included bothers me.

Still a tremendous place of knowledge.

It doesn't bother so much as I find stupid this "pure metal" nonsense. Especially when you find neo-folk, drone and ambient acts that are so far from Metal that one thinks even Ke$ha could be included if she was on the right label and wearing corpsepaint.

I'm too but I googled her name a while ago because she's doing a Dylan song in a tribute I was listening to. Her song was one of the worst and it was a 72 songs tribute!

They won't even let a lot of grindcore bands because they're not metal enough. I had an argument with one of the Metal Archives guys about some Czech grindcore bands.

He reckoned that Grindcore was punk and thus not allowed.


Yet they have electronica/dark wave bands whose only connection to metal is that they feature members of metal bands.

Metal Archives is an ok source of information, but the people who run it are beyond idiotic.

And I'd say the same thing. We've had this argument before though.

They should have been accepted around the time Prophecy was released.

I can definitely see them not being there for the first two albums, as they are way too nu-metal. The third album, ॐ, is a grey area, as they started moving away from nu-metal on it. ॐ still had a lot of nu-metal on it, but also had some hardcore/crossover and groove metal elements on some tracks. But from Prophecy forward, Soulfly are a metal band whether you like them or not. It's not even debatable.

I feel the only reason they weren't accepted years ago is because Fred Durst made an appearance on the debut. If it was any other rapper in his place, they would have been there years ago. But they were undeservedly blacklisted for so long because of that, I think.
