This. I don't think it pales compared to NSV either.

I need to listen to them all again, but the vocals-and-drums-uber-alles production on OWN spoils it a little for me. It's also much more of a controlled madness than NSV's chaos. I don't really mean to criticise OWN, though, it is a terrific album.

I think both albums are pretty flawed production wise, but I suppose that feeds their respective charms in a sense. I should listen to Blasphemy Made Flesh though, that one has a lot fewer listens than the the other.

Good stuff husker. Sounds like Graveland haven't really changed at all since 2003-2004 when I stopped listening to them, which is fine when it is this well-done.

There are probably about 6-7 tracks in the history of MDB that represent essential aspects of the band. "The Raven and the Rose" demonstrates both how surprisingly complicated their musicianship has been the last 15 years and illustrate why so many fans clamor for more of the heavier side of their music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DbYyGz7brRo

Gorod - Mind Controller

One of the best tech death songs ever.

Gravemist - The Burning Times

Not metal at all, it's actually a duo best described as "Gothic Americana roots music", consisting of a husband and wife (stand up bass / vocals, guitar).
Some of the best stuff I've ever heard.

Listening to Drifting Alone right now. Cool stuff. I really dig old school, murder ballad-type shit, so this is right up my alley. Will have to be on the lookout for some of their records.

I think I would just rather listen to Nick Cave than Gravemist. I do like Gravemist's 50s american music vibe.

Kicks the arse of anything off the Book of Souls. Wish he made more solo albums as good as this and Chemical Wedding.

I was listening to Blackstar so much that I had to stop. Combined with the video I was having nightmares about it

Exumer - Brand of Evil

Pleasantly surprised by the quality of the new record which is a big step up from F&D which was much too stiff and unvaried riff-wise. The obvious Exodus comparisons have been noted by many but honestly Holt hasn't written anything this good since Tempo of the Damned. Should have old school thrashers smiling from ear to ear.

Melechesh - Triangular Tattvic Fire

Great bit of groovy Mid-Eastern black/thrash that they've never managed to outdo.

Ah, my favorite Melechesh record. Very solid track, will have to give this disc a spin again soon.

Even though I wasn't sold on his cover of MDB's Symphonaire Infernus...I've been listening to Alex Meilenwald constantly again. "Desert Lair" is my current favorite, great mix of eastern atmospherics plus Ruins of Beverast's trademark alternating between riff heavy black and doom.

Batushka manages to not be a gimmick at incorporating Orthodox chanting into its black metal.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZ3DHGutU3w This track features one of those really massive melodic riffs that sticks in your head long after the song ends.

Was a big thread awhile ago at NWN about them, apparently people getting ripped off by the singer's distro.
