Underrated album. Stellar songwriting, perhaps a bit more straightforward than Angel Dust, but it doesn't really suffer for that.

Underrated by who? That album's awesome.

Underappreciated album from an underappreciated band. If you like Dodheimsgard's weirdest moments, then you'll love this.

Sample, "Diving with Your Hands Bound [Nearly Flying]"

It is an utter travesty that How The World Came To An End is sitting with a 10 on this site as it "wasn't metal". That review was a piece of shit.

Indeed Stephie, it's a great album. Growing in me with every listen. Circumstanced it's one of the best songs I've heard this year.

My favorite, so far, are Facing Down and Golden Days.

One of the year's best albums. Doom + Prog + Melodic Death Metal. Awesome!

Orphaned Land's long awaited follow up to Mabool. This isn't as amazing as that one but then again, what is. A very enjoyable mix of prog, folk, melody and some extreme aspects here and there.

It is really good, definitely their best since Time. Some proper anthems on there, Belladonna sounds great, riffs and stomping rhythms everywhere. Almost has an Iced Earth/US power metal vibe to me at certain points. Deserves your ears. :dio:

Just tried to listen to it, I couldn't get past the fourth track. Not for me.

Give it a chance, Bruce! It's a great album, really.
What was your problem with it?

Not as good as V but better than VI. Depression as its more "relaxed".

Bit of a slow start to this one, but fuck me if it isn't soon thrashing the hell out. Great stuff.

I've never given post-rock an actual shot before so this could be considered to be my proper introduction to the genre. And what an introduction it is. I love that they mixed the post-rock sound with some electronica influences.

I'm trying again... I wouldn't know how to explain what bothers me, but the oversimplistic riffs and vocals a la Californian punk rock shit kids do these days annoy me a lot. I'm not saying it's bad, I'm just saying this is not for me.

For instance, the first minute of In the end is great. Then you have a nice little rhythmic riff. So far, so good. And then BAM, uninspired, "for teenagers" verses and choruses. It ruins it all for me.

This is only my opinion of course.

edit: and I don't like Belladonna's singing. But to be honest I can't take seriously a guy who has a pornstar name.

I find it to be their best work in years as I too tired of the constant 'father/son' lyrical themes and Portnoy's annoying pseudo growling/rapping nonsense. This album exemplifies that Portnoy's influence was indeed an issue. His departure has allowed the remaining DT members to write/create an album that sounds closer to what I would call traditional DT. I hear a tremendous amount of YES influences on this album as well.

First spin, hoping for the best but I'm not afraid, Moonsorrow rarely disappoint.

25 years after their previous album, The Rods return and play exactly the same kind of hard rockin' metal punk they were known for.
But they aged, and it shows. Still, not bad but a tad sad.

EDIT: Forgot to mention the song The Code, a chance to hear what an amazing set of pipes Ronnie Dio had.
