Had always had a take it or leave it approach to Nadja, but I love this one where they took their drone-doom in a more rock oriented direction. Strongly recommend listening to the track Falling out of Your Head if you are curious: I bought it on the spot. I'll give it a try! Nadja are one of those bands that I enjoy each time I dip in (much like Boris) but whose discography is a little tough to get to grips with without becoming overwhelmed. These drone bands usually make interesting stuff when they structure things in a rock direction, though.

And yes, Bandcamp is something of a revelation - feels like you're directly supporting artists, and for much less than the price of physical media / storage worries. I should buy more from there.

Thoughts? I think it is fine on first listen, but getting way overhyped. Should have known that pitchfork gave it a glowing review. Nothing wrong with borrowing from Morbid Angel/Mithras/Immolation and Nile as well, but new Nile blows this away.

Right, for years I resisted the Bandcamp thing as being less pure or whatever, but any option to not add to my physical collection is a good one. Being able to send a band a few bucks directly seems like the best way to directly encourage them to still make music in 2019. Especially when crowdshare websites like pledgemusic have turned into disastrous scams.

I dig it big time. Haven't heard the new Nile yet but I'm not a big Nile fan....not sure why just never could get into them outside a few songs.

I thought their debut was similarly fine, not got around to this yet, but Pitchfork being all over it is no surprise. The review is actually kinda hilarious - "they're incredible guitar players, just like Kerry King!" "They use synths! Whoa, fretless bass!" Sure, 18 minute death metal songs are kinda rare, but the likes of Pestilence and Cynic were doing this sort of spacey thing in 1993. I like Pitchfork for discovering new stuff, yet the more they cover metal the more they make plain that they really haven't much idea of its history. Nothing against BI, I'll definitely listen to the album.
