| Post subject: | Albums that should never be played live. |
While more indicative of albums whose quality dips into the nether regions of absolute shit. My original intention is of those albums which have a minor flaw in either execution or in terms of weakness of songcraft. What are some albums that you've heard, whose performance in the studio would not equate to a good live show. Whether it is due to tepid songwriting or just not being performable on a live set, what are these albums and if the songs were performed live, how did they fair with the better ones on the set? |

Limbonic Art never would have made much sense as a live band, for reasons having nothing to do with the quality of the material. |

Because they're a two person band or because they are so atmospheric? Seeing 15 minute long doom songs isn't really my cup of tea and I skipped out on seeing Sunn 0))) for this reason but I'm going to see Earth in June so we'll see how that goes. I wish two person bands more often toured. Obv with session musicians but I just want to hear bands like Ihsahn's, Panopticon and Anaal Nathrakh live so badly.

They speed up their tracks significantly from the album versions. |

I would assume that bands using drum machines would get a session drummer, like Devy's touring of Ziltoid tracks. However, the layers of keyboard work probably would be ridic. |

I think Iron Maiden made a bad decision when they decided to play A Matter of Life and Death live. It's a great album, but probably the worst "live album" in their discography. Too slow, too many interludes, not enough crowd-pleasing moments etc. |

Not really sure what you mean by a minor flaw or fault in composition. Can you give an example of an album you see that way? Don't know if this is what you mean, but: there are quite a few bands that I love, but probably don't think they'd be good in a live setting; not because they aren't good musicians or there is something wrong with the music, but because I don't think it would be as effective in a live environment. For example, there are some Burzum songs (like Jesus Dod, Dunkelheit, War Sverddans and others) would be cool to see live, while others wouldn't really suit a live atmosphere. As much as I love Lost Wisdom or Det som en gang var, I'd never want to see them played live just like it isn't something I'd sit around listening to with other people around, really. Just ruins the atmosphere. Then there are some bands that put out mediocre albums that are fine to listen to at home but don't wanna hear live. Like Vreid had some decent songs on V, but also some pretty horrible ones as well, so I'd want to hear more from their old albums when I see them live again. Generally anything that is slow or atmospheric is not a great concert experience for me, because I like high energy shows best. |
