What are some bands whose demos were incredibly well done, who then went on to release a slew of lackluster or weak albums. If they're a bigger name and they've rerecorded the tracks off their demos, did the quality even bear some semblance to their demo song? My vote goes to Mayhem and while DMDS is their claim to fame, their demos are rage and intensity personified, which taps into a sound they'd never reclaim again. |

I can't think of a single thing other than a few Dream Theater songs that should have made it on When Dream and Day Unite. Other than that, I can't think of any demos that were sensational in any respect. |

Nihilist and Hellhammer didn't get worse when they transitioned to their studio forms but their demos are excellent. |

I've been recently blown away by WITTR's demo. 10x better than their later output. |

Most of my favourite bands' demos are decent, but I wouldn't want them not to have released anything else. I suppose the obvious types to say are Trivium, Bullet For My Valentine, etc. |

For some of the more modern old school death worshipping bands, its as if their demos transcend their full lengths. In the same way that Dead Congregations full length just seem forced, all of that dark production and murky riffing is more novelty and hardly excusable except on their demos. |
