Post subject:  Classic bands you never understood

Regardless of whatever respective genres we as metalheads indulge in, there are always a few founding bands that either rub us the wrong way, we don't thoroughly enjoy, or just never get around to listening too. What are some of the bands in your favorite subgenres, that you haven't really checked out or don't really buy into.

70s Priest is some of the best metal/rock ever. Better than 80s, 90s, and today Priest. Painkillier included.

Diamondhead: Lightning to the Nations just sucked outside of "Am I Evil" IMO. I may not have listened to the record enough to grasp all of it, but I didn't think it warranted that either.

Iron Maiden has never impressed me very much, but I haven't really listened to a ton of it either.

A lot of thrash bands don't have the songwriting ability to be compelling. I'm looking at you Exodus, Overkill and Anthrax. Stone was better than all three of these bands.

Pentagram was fun for a short while until is just got boring, and that happened fast

Yes: half complete meandering bullshit, half genius depending on the song in question. I've listened to Relayer quite a bit and just don't care, despite all the praise Geddy Lee gives the album. I like their "progressive pop" they put out in the late 80's and early 90's post the "schism" between Squire and Anderson. It forced them to write catchy material. "The Ladder" was just brilliant. Bruce Fairbairn wasn't having any of the bullshit when he produced that record, sadly it was his last. I love watching the "House of Yes" DVD though.

A lot of Chicago's 70's material has that meandering unashamed lack of songwriting, but half of it is brilliant though.

Kiss was far better in the 80's. Their 70's albums were TERRIBLE outside the first one and Casablanca was relying on the 3-4 singles to sell them IMO. But Ace was the best songwriter the band ever had. They would have been amazing had Ace been allowed to stay.

Doom metal. I know a lot of people love it to death, but the tempo does not fit the key at all IMO. Eb is supposed to sound relaxed, but slowed down it just sounds depressing.

This is solely the case if one states or lists the bands instead of expounding why they haven't fully listened to their discography, never fully understood their sound, or haven't gotten around to listening to them. I never said what Classic band you outright hated, I said which one you never understood or based on what you have heard are left with more of a "meh" than outright revulsion.
