Post subject: | Worst live singers? ...and more! |
------------------------- Part I ------------------------- Who are the worst singers you've ever heard live? Until recently, I was under the mistaken impression that singers were pretty much spot on live, but I keep reading how so many singers with long careers and good reputations being major fuckups out on the road. I have an ulterior motive as well, read on if interested. It isn't necessary for the thread, but I would consider it a personal favor if you did and gave me some insight. I'll try to be as concise as possible ![]() ----------------------------- Part II ----------------------------- I'm going to start playing out live again and need some guidance. Despite what you might think about my singing from 3 years ago back when I was an awful throat singer who probably couldn't spell "resonance" if you gave me all the vowels, it is to the point now that virtually anything I sing is spot on in every respect, except the actual notes being dead on key. Even with very difficult stuff like Angra I get the notes right 90% of the time due to the muscle memory screwing me up or hearing the wrong notes when my ear was not developed. Even when I make a mistake and sing the wrong note, its usually pitch perfect anyway. So there's no "quarter notes" in my voice that would sound dissonant and annoying and totally clash with the band. I understand that it is not required that a singer be dead perfect to the cent 100% of the time. I think +/- 10 cents is good enough intonation personally since that is about all one can expect from string instruments. I don't settle for that in the studio. It has to be perfect in that setting just to be clear. It's been a while so I don't know how trying to harmonize with the other instruments will play out. I didn't do that before but certainly will now that I have worked on it. So, what i'm getting at is: I want some examples of what people consider "bad" to see if my standards are exceeding what is to be expected and if I can get away with a couple wrong notes per song (remember, not wildly off-pitch, but just the wrong note choice) in a regional club/bar type setting. Yeah, I'm aware no one cares at these shows and won't even notice, but you get my point, hopefully. Seriously. This is the only thing holding me back. I'm 90% there on the notes and wanna know if that's good enough. The tone and technique is a hair away from flawless right now, so i'm not necessarily asking who's got the most annoying voice live. If you've gotten this far, thank you sincerely. I hate having to sound so self congratulatory. Believe me it isn't like that, one note being a little bit off is enough to make me want to just forget the whole fucking thing. I'm trying to be honest so i'm not going to pretend I am terrible just to mine advice or display some form of bullshit humility. So thanks again for putting up with my Yngwie personality. |

Yeah, I think we should all make one thread per person devoted to just ourselves individually. In that case, Husker is schizophrenic. |

It's a simple question guys. I clearly said Pt. 2 was the long explanation of why I'm asking to begin with. So no one has any info or any opinion at all on the worst singers they've heard live? Youtube clips would be funny. |

James LaBrie, I guess. And one bald guy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqmRBhsNdyo It's probably my favourite song of all time, and they butchered it to hell. |

The harsh vocals totally sucked. Is that what people are getting way with at the clubs? |
