Fucking absurd. If songs are truly worth that much than a fully loaded iPod would be the most expensive item on the planet. Damn the RIAA to hell.

They do a great job of making the public despise them. Horrible PR on their part.

There should be some sort of protest where everyone downloads something randomly all over the world- oh, wait...

That's what happen when you DL top 40 on a stupid program like Kazaa. They were probably shared by the RIAA or whatever.

Also these large lawsuits and bits of media attention are their attempts to scare everyone into thinking you're going to be next and hit with such a huge fine. It's a message that most overlook, as they should. It's like the war on drugs. They'll never catch all the pirates. There will be another program, another website. It will never stop.

Also I am not sure if I've mentioned this here but my buddy got sued by the RIAA years ago for using Limewire. They got him for 4 grand. It was pretty fucking silly. I can't remember all the details about it specifically but he basically got a letter and had to pay up or go to court.

Fucking ridiculous. Somebody should bomb their buildings or something.

Wait, that is a bit extreme, but so is suing a single person 1.5 mil for something that everyone does. BOMB THE RIAA!

I love it. Fuck that bitch.

If I recall correctly, they offered her a deal years ago, pay a couple thousand dollars and it was a done deal. She refused and decided to fight it. Dumb move.

Excessive means nothing to you does it?

Why should she have to pay thousands of dollars? If you shoplift, you don't have to pay them back a hundred times the item's worth. Ridiculously unjust, she was right to fight and it's sad she lost.

It's a bullshit lawsuit.
The record industry has been ripping off listeners of pop music forever; how many times has someone liked that one song they heard on the radio, bought the album only to find that the rest is pretty much filler, skipped or ignored?
I'd guess a lot. Yet the record industry has no compunction with selling their product at full price. Let's be honest here; they bank on that one hit single to sell records, records that more often than not are full of filler that the consumer genrally doesn't care for.
Its pure, cold hearted greed, is all it is. And dishonest to boot. When you buy a product, you generally are allowed to see what it is you are buying; with CDs, it can be a mystery purchase. Is this fair? When I buy a car, I dont get to look at the front only, do I?

She is a middle-age mom, fa fucksake. Good to see our courts being used as they were intended. How much money did this frivolous lawsuit cost the county it was held in?
A fine in excess of $1M for a couple of dozen crappy songs?
Get the fuck out of here, if anything this should be a small claims court issue.
What I'd really love to see is a worldwide backlash and general boycott of this greedy bloodsucking industry to the point they are driven into destitute obsolescence.
Fuck the RIAA.

Anyone defending the Labels on this one are full of shit.

*Remember when they tried to stop people from buying or selling used records tapes and CDs?

*Remember when they wanted everyone to pay royalties on blank CDs (they succeeded) Tapes (they didn't) when a great number of people were using them for their own bands. In other words, if I wanted to record my own music I get to kick money upstairs for the pleasure.

Make no mistake, they will not stop until they have you paying on a pay per listen basis. That is their ultimate goal.

In case anyone was wondering. If you go out and buy a portastudio with a CD burner it will REQUIRE you to use Music CD-R's which are simply regular CD-R's with a nice 50c per disc royalty attached, so you literally have to pay labels to make your own music. Those scumbags. Fuck you too Yamaha for playing along (since you own a label in Japan)
