| Post subject: | Has any one met anyone that is really into punk/hardcore? |
I was walking along and spotted a few dudes wearing Black Flag and other proper punk/hardcore shirts. It dawned to me that I have never met anyone who has been a punk/hardcore fanatic or indeed even had more than a passing interest in it and no-one that's into proper punk/hardcore stuff Bands I'm referring to include Black Flag, CroMags, Sick Of It All, Dead Kennedies, Exploited, Misfits, Discharge, Earthcrisis, Madball, Hatebreed, NOFX, Pennywise etc. I knew some Nu-Metallers and Glam guys who owned albums by bands such as the Sex Pistols and pop punk ala Greenday, Blink 182 etc as well as some Aussie bands ala Frenzal Rhomb and Living End. These guys tended to own whatever was popular and eventually gave up their metal for QOTSA and Foo Fighters when they became popular. I also knew some rock guys (i.e. Hellacopters, Backyard Babies etc) that also liked the Ramones. Even the local beer drinking, meat eating Straightedger wannabes (I kid you not) listened to Metalcore. My own punk escapades are limited to punky metal ala Venom, Nuclear Assault and Suicidal Tendencies. I don't mind punk though but sometimes find it lacks energy compared to Thrash or brutality when compared to Death. So have you guys ever met people really into punk/hardcore or are you into punk/hardcore? |

For about a year before I enrolled in college and got engaged, I was heavily involved in the local deathcore and hardcore scenes of about four cities about 100 miles or so from where I lived. There is no real tangible metal scene apart from about six or so bands, but they don't last too long due to different musical tastes. I loved booking shows and the energy is something that sets hardcore apart from an impersonal metal show. |

*Raises hand* Or well, I was heavily into it a couple of years ago, and own much from Cro-Mags, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, Bad Brains, Discharge, Agnostic Front, Hot Snakes etc. Now I'm mostly into post-hardcore though. |

Cincinnati has a huge DIY hardcore scene. A bunch of really cool guys doing stuff ranging from practically metal crust to quasi-pg 99 stuff to d-beat worship. I get down to some screamo hardcore a la Orchid or pg. 99, some ignorant stuff like Trapped Under Ice and your standard Black Flag or Misfits. |

We have a pretty large local hardcore scene here in Omaha. Pretty much everyone in my group of friends loves hardcore. Three of my friends are in hardcore bands that play locally. We've had bands like Rotting Out, Trapped Under Ice, Foundation, Mother of Mercy, Bracewar, Cruel Hand, etc run through here... And pretty often. There was a decent punk scene here years back but that sort of died out with a couple venues. Not that I really mind. It's kinda cool. Being a metalhead they sort of got me into a lot of hardcore I don't think I would have ever given a chance to before because I sort of lumped it all in with Hatebreed or a lot of that whiny three word band emo kid hardcore crap. |

There was this girl in my high school whose entire life was punk rock. I remember in the first day of History class our teacher began discussing what the definition of history is and then asked the class for examples of history. So I hear the usual answers like World War II, Civil Rights Movement, etc. And then she raises her hand and says.... "When Joey Ramone died." Now maybe that came to her mind because he died earlier that year but something tells me if he hadn't she would have just said Sid Vicious instead or something. |

Punk people are kind of weird because I see dudes and dudettes with the leather/denim jackets covered in patches and I try to see if there's some bands I know (without being a weird starer) but there almost never is. |

This.. Yeah, I've met my fair share of fans. They seem to be the typical disappointed hard rock fans from the 70's that hated AOR. Luckily some of them came back when thrash took hold. |

I was really into Punk when I was 15/16 but I've never really known anyone else who liked it. I actually don't really know many people who like metal either most of the people I know tend to like more mainstream music. |
