This was fucking hard. I tried thinking back to those years and picking what I listened to the most. My current list would be different because I'm bored of some of them but this is pretty close to how I'd answer if I was asked back in those years. Did 2009 slay or what? I don't know if it is because it is the year I remember the most, but it was the hardest one to pick from. 2003 and 2004 were also amazing years. 2002 is the weakest year in this decade.

I found I was much more spoiled for choice as it got later in the decade. Maybe that's because I was paying a lot more attention towards the end than I was at the beginning, rather than because it necessarily was better.

This got a lot harder from 2003 on because Akimbo and The Mars Volta started releasing great albums on a yearlyish basis. Would've been a lot harder if I hadn't tried to keep it somewhat metal oriented. Weird how despite listening to oodles of obscure and awesome music I still went with fairly well known stuff most of the time! 2000 (easy) Slough Feg - Down Among the Deadmen At the Drive-In - Relationship of Command 2001 (still easy) Converge - Jane Doe Tool - Lateralus 2002 (not very much I can think of, so I am cutting one and adding it to 2003!) The Postman Syndrome - Terraforming 2003 (so many good albums, had to leave off Slough Feg and Akimbo and Ephel Duath and Thrice and Strapping Young Lad and A Perfect Circle and Radiohead but even then these three stand out as being quite a bit above those) Hammers of Misfortune - The August Engine The Mars Volta - De-Loused in the Comatorium Devin Townsend - Accelerated Evolution 2004 (no contest lol) Converge - You Fail Me Neurosis - The Eye of Every Storm 2005 (Pretty easy to choose these two but some other crazy awesome shit was released in 05 like Chronoclast and The Moon is a Dead World) Protest the Hero - Kezia The Mars Volta - Frances the Mute 2006 Tool - 10,000 Days Zebulon Pike - The Deafening Twilight 2007 Neurosis - Given to the Rising Reverend Bizarre - III: So Long Suckers 2008 (Holy tons of awesome albums in 08) East of the Wall - Farmer's Almanac La Dispute - Somewhere at the Bottom of the River Between Vega and Altair 2009 Doomriders - Darkness Come Alive Converge - Axe To Fall 2010 Foxy Shazam - s/t Blood Command - Ghostclocks
